Why do P*s use batteries such as the Wolverine SMP drop in?

As the title says. I don't understand why a gas powered gun would need a battery.

Because there are programmable features such as rof, open or closed bolt, etc and a circuit board

Because the air system is controlled by electronics. It's not a new concept. The Angel paintball gun was the first I know of to do that and that was in 15 years ago or so.
