Turn a JG SR-25 into a full-auto SAW?

Postby The Nutty Professor » Sun Jan 06, 2013 11:20 pm

As the title states this is my next project. Yes I know exactly what the AR-10 was designed for but I also know the military is always converting platforms. This is a .308 and that makes an awesome support weapon. Thought I'd give it a go and see what falls out. I just have the very and I mean very basics of a plan. An electric autowind dual drum magazine, ACog optic, and a MadBull Tracer LED unit hop-up. I think I want a high ROF and accuracy for the most part is not a priority.

If your local fields allow it, than have fun.

The nay-sayers will be along shortly to inform you of mil-sim heresy, and the burning at the stake will begin promptly following that.

I don't understand the heresy? Everything I mentioned can be done to Real Steel. Of course with the correct components. If the FPS is correct and it is intended as a support weapon whats the difference? Instead of belt fed it's drum fed.

There is already a 7.62x51(basically .308) SAW. It's called a MK48. Can easily be good enough airsoft replicated with a MKII saw w/ some exterior mods.

Most of the elements in the exterior of the MK48 are what I want to do with the SR-25 and it will be different. This is what I'm looking at

Of course it will be different. They're completely different weapons. One is built for heavy sustained fire. One is built for single precision fire. They're built for specific jobs.

Yeah I can see this crowd has a closed mind. Thanks anyway. Carlos putting a scope on a .50 would have you guys choking on your baby food wouldn't it.

You made a post not asking any questions, just stating your intentions at some point. You left yourself open to people making comments on it. If you don't want people with different opinions commenting on your shit then don't post it. Instead you just look like a 15 year old kid.

Go ahead and do whatever you want. We really could not give any more fucks either way. You don't bother putting a location, so I would assume you're not around the Portland area, if you are, good luck finding a place that would let you run such a thing as 99% of the fields/games don't allow abominations as this running drums.

So those fields don't allow M249's or M240's which are box fed? No I didn't present a direct question but constructive criticism such as "Buddy it's drum fed there might not be many fields that will allow it. But if you do this..." was what I was expecting. The first response warned me about the prick factor but always the optimist am I.

I'll admit the way I wrote it out was confusing, so I'll rewrite it...

Good luck finding a field that would let you run an abomination such as this with a drum, as 99% of the local fields/games wouldn't let you.

To clarify more... anything without a mass produced(not a random custom job by joe-blow)counterpart(IE, M249s, M60s, M240s, etc)are generally not allowed to use box magazines. Such a AR variant or a MP5 with a box mag.

As a field owner I will not allow that platform on the field.

As far as the prick factor goes there was very little. I have seen a lot worst, consider your self lucky.

If it's within safe FPS limits, you could probably skirm with it, but most game promoters who run big games don't allow box magazines on unrealistic weapons. The same would apply to slapping a box mag on your MP5 or M4 and calling it a SAW. There's the non-prick answer for you.
