I had a great analogy to explain it, but then realized it didn't work. But here it is anyways:

Tell her you can spend $400 upgrading an obsolete model, or spend $400 getting a new one. Either way, you are going to spend $400. It's like spending the money on plastic surgery, or spending $400 on a new girl.

When I finished this thought, I realized it would probably lead to yelling/physical abuse/weeks of sleeping outside. So, lets go with a computer analogy:

You are going to spend $400 no matter what. Would you rather buy new, professionally done, state of the art? Or $400 in upgrades that aren't guaranteed to work properly with the current set up that you have?

Jester has spoken words of wisdom. You can actually get a fantastic gun for about $250-300, and then use the rest to buy gear. An Aftermath gun would be hard to upgrade, and in the end, you would not have an equal result.

I would think of it like this: Would you rather upgrade the shit out of an early '90s Honda Civic, or spend an equal amount of money on a car that is designed for high performance, like a BMW M series or something? No matter how much you upgrade the Civic, it is not designed for high performance from the start, it's designed for cheap.

The Aftermath is designed for cheap. You can upgrade it as much as you want, but it will still have a cheap base. If you get a higher end MP5, say, a G&G (do not take this as a recommendation for a brand, I'm just throwing a name out there), you will have a high performance AEG through and through.

Better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

A possible idea is to ask her if you can sell the aftermath and then buy a new one. That's how I make it work with my mom. I had to convince her to let me buy a second one, and she would be scary if I bought a third, but she doesn't mind if I trade or sell and buy so long as the arsenal stays the same size. Except the pistols. And the gear. She has a hard time keeping track of those.

This has got to be one of the funniest threads ever. I think I'll just buy a new replica and if she gets mad I can bring up all the day spa's, hair cuts(that looks the same), shoe's, and those 20 purses that she really needs. And to all those youngin's out there you'll understand one day what some of us married guy's have to go though. "Enjoy your youth"

This thread has reconfirmed my disdain for relationships, and has reignited the hate. Thank you.

Well I guess I should mention that for the past 8 yrs I use to drift ALOT, and that's the reason why she sceptical on my new hobby. She saw me spend thousands of dollars in parts and tire's for my car. And I don't think she wants to see that again.

If she won't budge sell the Aftermath and take the money from it and use it with the $400 and get a nice replica. You get to have a nice replica, you will still only have one, wife is happy! if that doesn't work tell her to make you a Samwich.

You can get by with $5-600 too. It's quite easy to not spend a ton on this hobby. Although it's also easy to go the other way and spend a ton.
