Juice hit it on the head. Your 14 you don't know anything, just because you learned how to jerk it last year. Guess what it doesn't mean shit. Listen to your elders!

So the Dboys is going to be the best run for my money... Great, that is if I do actually buy a replica from a retailer. Let that be the common response to anybody that is looking for an M4 for under $200. (You know that there are tons.)

@Juicemachine: Really? If your 15, don't complain about kids being 14. It, in turn, makes you look even worse than they may be. All of us under the age of 21 if even that, are still kids... And remember the golden rule! If you don't have anything positive to say, then don't bleeding post.

I'd still look for a used decently tuned gun on the classifieds here. You'd get a hell of a lot more bang for your buck. Remember though quality of your work you do on it will mean a lot more though then what kind of gun you get.

I have a G&G GR16 Blowback and I find that it works great when you upgrade it a bit, but if you want something else check out this site.

BTW I dont think you are going to find much but a decent starter gun for under $200. this is just my opinion, so dont go on hating on my post.

Reason number 6,794 not to buy an Echo1:

The hole the motor enters in the gearbox is smaller than the pinion gear which must pass through it. This makes repairing the gearbox difficult, and can result in metal shavings inside the gearbox.

Have any other tech's noticed this? I'll try to get a picture of the wearing from inserting and removing the motor.

So this is my first post, i'm not 14, and not a veteran at airsoft. That being said, i have been doing heavy research, hands on, and online about a starter m4 for myself.

I've looked at the G&G mostly, i've looked at reviews of the internals, the upgradableness ( is that a word?) and they seem to be a good start. I've seen them drop onto concrete and survive.

Also looking at availability of the models at our local store. I don't see the D-boys metal m4, but i do see the G&G around allot.

If your only argument to not getting a G&G is that it has a plastic fibre body, then that is not enough to sway anyone away from it. Hell, my Springfield .40 has a mostly plastic body, my ruger p90 has a plastic body, you can't tell me that just because it's plastic that its crap.

So, when i purchase my new m4 this next week, i will be going to a storefront to buy one, handle the metal ones, see what options i have, but more than likely with the research i've done will be purchasing a G&G m4 because of the price and how it can take upgrades with a metal gearbox.

I went with an Echo-1 "M8A4". Although the body isn't as high of quality as plastic as the G&G, the benefits of spending $220 were well worth it compare to a Combat machine. This E1 actually came with a 6" free float R.I.S., crane stock, JG M4 Enhanced gearbox (re-branded), nice flip-up sights, madbull "blue" bucking and nub, and an "ergonomic" pistol grip. (It also comes with a VERY nice stubby foregrip, my broken one just happened to make it through quality control.)

The only bad things about this gun are that it came with a 5.5in. barrel, and the foregrip not working. Other than that, once I replaced the barrel this thing has been shooting fantastic, and held up perfect when I stress tested it with an 11.1v.

(Sorry for continuing a necro...)

EDIT: Part of my decision was based on what AONW had to supply... And if they aren't supplying the gun I want. Then I won't buy it, I'd love to go with another gun instead and support the local shop as opposed to Evike, ASGI, etc.

Nobody said plastic body = crap. Many RS firearms are made of high quality polymers, and their airsoft counterparts replicate that polymer furniture.

The problem is that a RS m4a1 is does not have polymer/abs recievers. G&G sportline series gun do, and they also don't have officially licensed Colt trademarks. Unless you shell out for a professional series gun you don't get metal recievers.

G&G are great starter guns, but they are not 1:1 and they suffer in the realism department. That is why if you have a little more cash to spend there are other alternatives that I would reccommend over a G&G.

Yea i noticed this a while ago on an Echo-1 I had from awhile back. Makes it really hard to seat a new motor and even harder to adjust..

I took the motor and inspected it... Seems to be a standard E1 motor except with a shiny looking pinion gear. I haven't magnet tested the pinion gear yet, but I noticed no pressure/difficulty while setting the motor back into place. It probably still has the problem mentioned though, just thought I would throw that out there.
