Exorcist for possesed AEG needed A.S.A.P.

Postby ~Thunder~ » Thu Jan 28, 2010 10:55 am

i'm looking for advice/help on my AEG which apparently has been possesed by an evil spirit...

Last night i was taking out some aggression on a carboard box that had been mocking me from the garage.

My battery died mid-way through a clip. When i swapped it out for a fresh battery i noticed a slight 'electrical/hot' smell.
It's a new AEG, and i've never pulled a battery out so soon after it died, so thought this may very well be normal(?) *shrugs*

As i clipped in a fresh battery my rifle immediately started shooting on full auto. i quickly unplugged the battery, made sure i had the safety on & wasn't doing something stupid like accidentally depressing the trigger.

i fumbled around looking for obvious signs of AEG injury for a while, but no luck.
Since i like pissing off the wife by covering the coffee table with things she's not interested in, i broke out the tools and dismantled my rifle as much as i was able to.

Well, i'm posting here you can probably guess i didn't find anything obvious...didn't spot any smoldering wires, broken solder points, loose bits, or anything else a noob like me would recognize as an issue.

i'm doing my best to make it to Snowmageddon (Estacada Skirmish), but the Gods of Platic Death seemingly don't want me to attend my first skirmish.

Does anyone have experience with an issue like this? Any ideas? Recommended place that might be competant enough to fix me up?
Do i need to sacrifice a virgin to appease the Gods??

i looked online and see Airsoft Outlet NW is pretty close to me (Beaverton/Hillsboro), but don't see 'gun services' listed. If nothing else i'll call them up and see if i can get pointed in the right direction...

Thanks in advance!

ASO does repair work, and they are very good at it. it sounds like an electrical issue, usually a short somewhere thats making it think you are pulling the trigger. most of the time electrical stuff is pretty easy. give ASO a call or head down there and they should be able to get you fixed up.

Your trigger contacts are sticking/worn out as well as other possible electrical issues.

What kind of AEG is it? What kind of battery? Any upgrades? Age of AEG?

Like Variable said, your trigger contacts are sticking. It's possible that the spring that holds the contact shuttle for the electrical firing mechanism broke, so when your trigger went back to neutral, the contact shuttle was stuck forward.

As for the smell, is it like burning electronics, or just ozone? If it's just ozone, I wouldn't worry too much, my P90 still smells like it after I've had a bit of firing.

Thank you Beran & Top.
That makes me feel whole hell of a lot better to hear i can trust my friendly neighborhood airsoft store. :)

Awesome, thank you Variable!

i suspected a trigger issue of some type...a few times the trigger would have more resistance than normal, but i chalked it up to something like the safety being half engaged.
Last night it felt like that resistance gave out completely, so maybe a crushed contact point or severed connection of some kind...?

It's a low end chinese internet special that you guys would never use or show in public. :?
9.6v 1100ma battery...i think, sorry, like i said n o o b, lol.
Bone stock. No upgrades at all unless you count the sling, midcap, and red dot mounted up top. ;)
Age? Hmm, about a week or so...

Good idea man.
When i find out what it is i'll post up and you guys can see who guessed right. :)

It smelled like hot/burny electronics to me.

The gun's practically out of the box, and like i mentioned never had pulled a battery out right away, so thought it could likely be what cheap Chinese weapons naturally smell like.

After seeing what it did with a fresh battery though, obviously my problem is more than just foreign odors. lol

Thanks a ton to everyone!
i'm still blown away with how quick you guys are on posts to help out. :D

If you are close to Hillsboro S4 tactical could probably have a look for you. I'm not sure which one would be closer to you, but it gives you some options.

They are really close to the Hillsboro airport if you know where that is.

Wow, too cool Ghost, thanks!
i haven't heard of that place, but according to Mapquest i could practically hit their building with a rock, so definitely doable if they can help me out.

i already called Airsoft Outlet & talked with Adam for a sec. He was way patient with my lack of knowledge which was cool.
Also, warned him that i might be pulling an e-brake slide into their parking lot five minutes before they lock up for the night, and all he said was "We'll be watching for you", lol, so yeah, i'll give them first shot at my money. Good times.

If you really want to go, I'm sure you can find someone to loan you a gun. A lot of people on AP are more then willing to help a new player out.

Yeah, i noticed this forum is especially cool to people like myself who have no idea what they're doing. ;)

That said though, i wouldn't borrow anything i couldn't afford to replace. If i had the cash to replace a borrowed gun i'd just go buy one now so i could play this weekend...

Oh well. Hopefully it won't be too much longer until i'm actually able to meet some of you guys.
