L85 vs AUG

Postby Deathlycobra » Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:20 pm

After 10 pages of search, I could not find any L85 vs AUG topics, so I shall start one. I was considering on getting a bullpup rifle, but I am not sure whether or not I should get a AUG, or a L85

AUG:
AUG Barrel length:508 mm (20.0 in)
Cheapest AUG, 140.
AUG can come standard with a scope
Ver.3 Gearbox
330 Hi-cap
Vertical Grip standard on all AUGs

L85:
L85A1 Barrel length:518 mm (20.4 in)
Cheapest L85, 185.
Removable Carry Handle
L85 can take M4/16 magazines
Custom Gearbox
300-400 Hi-cap
Full Metal

So, can you guys help a brotha out on picking up one of these rifles?

Why not a TAVOR? :D Oh and I'm sure you will have already heard this by the time I'm done typing but MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND!

BTW: bullpups are not ergonomically designed for smaller folks

AUG + M203.

Make up your own mind!

Problem with AUG's is the inability to take the cheap mags made by sooo many companies for M16's. However, Mag does make a value pack of 5 mids for the AUG. As does King Arms.

Trust me, I am not a "smaller folk"

Also, the TAVOR is sexy as hell, but just to expensive... for now.

Id go with a L85-A1. If i didn't get my M14, i would have bought one of those.
Also you could get the L86-A2, its the support style.

With the AUG you have over 3(4) models to chose from, all look diffrent but operate the same. The L85 you have one single model to choose from (excluding the LMG version) and in my opinion the best one is the ICS one. While for the AUG there is TM,CA,JG,E1 (JG). Originality wise I would go with the L85, almost no one has it and Mags plenty exist for. The AUG alot of people have and mags are rare.

AUG hopup's are nice, but I don't know if the ICS L85 hopup is any worse or better. Personally i'd go with an L85 (ICS).

The L85A2 was simply an improvement on a lot of the issues with the L85A1. It was not a support gun, as it still had the standard 20 inch barrel, although it was upgraded to a chrome-lined barrel for improved accuracy and durability.
The support version of the L85 is the L86, which has a rear grip for added support and a 25 inch barrel. It was originally made for the support weapon role, but the C-mags that it was supplied with were far too unreliable to make it an effective support rifle. It is currently used as a DMR rifle, as the 25 inch barrel lends itself to a great degree of range and accuracy.

Now, to the OP, it's really personal preference. The L85 is made for right-handed shooter exclusively, while the AUG is ambidextrous, for another point to look over. the trade off for this, however, is that the mag release on the AUG is horribly uncomfortable, while the L85 is rather easy to reload. The Army L85 also comes with electric blowback stock, which is a plus for some people but a minus for others. For those who don't want the extra battery drain, it is easily disabled, and can be put back on just as simply.

I have no experience with the AUG hop up, but I know that the Army L85s (and , I assume, other options out there) use a one-piece M4 hop up.

It has the same length inner barrel as the L85.

I've only held one L85 and it seemed pretty bulky, but it felt pretty nicely balanced. The AUGs I’ve held all were comfortable to hold but back heavy.

All the L85s and AUGs I’ve seen have been pretty darn accurate, so they’re about even there.

The mags shouldn’t be an issue for either if you know where to look.

Its all personal preference, choose for yourself -go out to some games/stores, hold some, fire em ect… ect... 8)
