I actually wouldn't recommend either of those steps, but feel free to do them.
Your gearbox is already locked. It may have been caused by a BB jam, but clearing the jam now will do nothing to actually change the condition of the gearbox.
It's possible that your mechbox could just be stuck in the fully-drawn position, or that resetting it will fix the problem. However, if you have a broken part in there, there's also a possibility that resetting the gearbox and just trying to shoot it again may cause other parts to break as well.
I would recommend having an experienced airsmith take a look at it. I can work on AEGs for people, or you can take it to Airsoft Outlet NW if you feel more comfortable with a business handling it. If you would like to begin learning how to work on AEGs yourself, post here and I will describe the possible problems and what you would want to look for to determine which parts may need to be replaced or what the issue might be.
