Entry-level AEG rifle purchasing/maintainence

Postby Antigan15 » Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:57 pm

Hey all,

I just recently got my first airsoft gun, a spring colt .45. Now I'm looking at getting an entry-level AEG rifle to really get into the hobby.

I'm looking for an M16, preferably. Does anyone know a good quality company that sells M16s? Or AK's, really, I'm not terribly picky. I'd prefer them to be under $100. If they're under $50, even better, since I'd be able to pick up multiples and actually start up my airsoft group idea.

Also, my pistol broke recently. It still loads, but when I cock it and try to fire, i get a dull thunk and the BB rolls out, or gets stuck. So before that happens to my rifle, I thought I should as for a quick tutorial on how to care for and store my rifle.

Thanks all,
Antigan15

Alright, well according to the sticky there is no entry-level AEG's. But I don't believe there are only good, quality companies and complete garbage companies. There has to be a middle ground. Any recommendations?

My cousin seemed pretty happy with his double eagle shotgun. Where does Double Eagle fall on the quality, cost scale?

Shotguns are different, there are decent cheap shotguns, but if you're looking for an AEG under $100 you aren't gonna find anything even remotely worthwhile.

Save ur cash and buy a good gun. Spending twice as much and having it for 5x as long (at least) is a much better deal.

The only electric gun you'll find under $50 is a crappy crossman or something equally yucky. Now if you want a springer or a shotgun, then as Antigan and Mini said, that's a fine spending limit.

I would really really recommend getting the new CA M15A4 Rifle, 2009 version. Airsoft Outlet NW has it in stock.

The new 2009 CA AEGs, especially their M15A4s, are much better than any M4/M16 AEGs under $200. If you start with a JG, you might, in the long run, spend more than the price of the gun and never get it to the level of the CA M15A4 Rifle.

If you like airsoft, if you're gonna play for a while and you want a quality built AEG, go for the CA over one of the entry level brands.

Were this a gun other than an M16, I might suggest other options. However, the CA M16 is not that expensive (Under $300), and it comes with a lot of nice features. The entry level ones often have a multiple-piece barrel, which can develop barrel wobble and twist, especially on an M16.

Dont spend $100-$200 on a gun, spend $250+ on a gun so you wont need to replace it, ever. Go buy Classic Army to me they make the best M16.

or spend 10 more dollars and get a DBOYS which will do you better.

Any gun can have problems, shit, Most KWA's as of lately have been bleeding up, its airsoft, the guns are full of gears and electrical issue's. shit is bound to happen.

Other than a few up and comers, this information is not obsolete.

To answer the question about middle ground, those are the rifles that cost around $150 but might or might not need parts replaced, and definitely need to be looked over by a professional to ensure that the gears are shimmed properly and that no parts are obviously defective. Then there are the $50-100 guns that are garbage, and the 200+ guns that likely won't need work and come with a warranty. I guess you could call Echo1 that middle ground, since most of their guns come shooting well, properly shimmed, and have a warranty just in case they are not while still being affordable. Downside? Plastic body.

If you really refuse to spend the money on a decent gun, like dtmcowboy said, get a JG. They are great if you don't mess with them, and are inexpensive enough that it's a well priced option. Just don't expect to be able to upgrade it properly past a barrel and hop up bucking, unless you drop a gearbox in, which you might as well have bought a classic army or like in the first place.(Then you'd have nice internals and externals from the start).

Again, the list goes garbage (Well and anything under a hundred bucks that isn't on clearance), middle ground (Dboys, JG, etc), and reliable manufacturers (Classic Army, Tokyo Marui etc).

I have to agree with 'spend money and get a decent AEG'. I've always had CA's and ICS's. Recently got a KWA and love it. However, we recently picked up an Echo 1 STAG-15 for $160 and considering it's plastic it's a pretty good gun for the $. The gearbox is the all metal Echo 1 that they put in their higher end weapons. So far this gun has been through ~5 skirmishes and it's done pretty well. Also, it's pretty easy to find metal uppers and lowers on this web sites buy/sell adds so at any time you could upgrade the STAG-15 to an all metal gun. The best advice is spend $300 and be done but I do understand that $ doesn't grow on trees. Just my 2c.
