Help tightening Two Piece Barrel

Postby galenorama » Thu Mar 25, 2010 4:33 pm

The entire front of the outer barrel of my CM M4 Carbine keeps on falling off, but I can't figure out how to tighten it. There are two parts to the barrel, one small metal tube that contains the inner barrel while it passes inside the handguard. That tube ends half way down the barrel, and there, a large outer barrel, with a front iron sight and gas block molded into it, takes over. There are two very small screw that grip onto the smaller, aforementioned tube. I can slide the front part of the outer barrel all the way down, but I can't tighten the screws b/c the metal piece that the front of the hand guard pushes against. In this piece, there are slots to allow a screwdriver in, but they are offset so that once the gas tube passes through it, you cant rotate it to access the screws. Can someone explain how to tighten these screws? Anything will help, pictures coming soon.

Thanks.

EDIT: Here is the pic.

I'm guessing that M$ = M4 . Also I think that the screws are in fact small allen's . That gas tube you can throw away , It's not needed and just gets in the way . If the allen's are stripped then you can just go the next size up . But I think that all you need to do is loosen them up sliding the outer barrel in all the way and retighten them . Pic's would be helpful . Or you could take it to AONW . They can fix anything .

I know that I need to tighten them, but thats not the problem. The issue is that I can't get a screwdriver in because the (object that the front of the hand guard attaches to) is in the way. I can rotate the (object that the front of the hand guard attaches to), but not when the gas tube stops it from moving. I would prefer not to cut out the gas tube, but I can if I have to. Look at the picture I added, that might help. And thanks for pointing out the typo.

If I'm not mistaken that gas tube has a roll type pin that holds it in .

If it has one . It should be just in front of the ring and you should see a small hole what might look like a hole thats plugged or something like that . Ya wanna push it thru with a small punch type tool it should push from side to side to release . Don't force it too much but you will need a bit of force . I tap on a punch with a light hammer and it comes right out .. If it does not have a roll pin then it should pull out when the barrel is seperated . Good luck with that . 8)

Really? My gas tube goes straight into the rails on top of my receiver. It looks like it is molded in.

It's not the best pic you have there but under your i in the word opposite , in that pic you posted looks like the hole your looking for . It's not molded in it's just a tight fit .

It's called having a good camera, grease. :P

Worst case scenario, cut a notch in the handguard cap to access the screws while the gas tube is in place. Other than that, taking out your gas tube so that you can rotate the disc sounds like a viable option too.

I just grabbed the gas tube with some really big pliers, and pulled on it 'till it came out. Then I stuck a little metal tube back in, to hold the Delta Ring in place. It all works now! Thanks for the help.
