barrel cleaning

Postby Mongrol » Tue Nov 30, 2010 8:03 pm

i have a 6.03 barrel that for reasons im withholding has glue or some kind of sticky substance in it causing the bb to fly random directions. If i used a fine bristle brush thing from a .22 to scrape it off would that scratch my barrel and make it useless?

What metal is your barrel made of, brass?

why not use something like goof off or alcohol rather than something abrasive that may damage your barrel.

Because if his barrel isn't all the same material, then those chemicals might screw things up worse.

The Madbull ones have a coating of... something on them. You'd be better off with a new barrel.

I suppose you could try soaking it in something nasty like paint thinner or alcohol, like Rick suggested, but I can't promise the black stuff they coat those barrels with won't melt off.

If you get a new barrel, go for stainless steel over brass, if you can.

Depends on what the bristles are made of. I wouldn't use it. Aluminum is a very soft metal, and that coating on the inside wasn't likely designed to withstand you scrubbing on it with a brush.

It will scratch.

Lots and lots of of repetition with a rod and a soft pad? Hours of that up/down motion ought to come easily to a 15 year old, right?

It's a carbon oxide coating on the madbull barrels.

If you use a brush..you may be able to rifle the barrel with a twisting motion.... (that is a joke BTW)

If you're going to go to war against a major enemy, go; knock the hell out of him fast, and go in there to kill him and get it over with.
