Crane stocks

Postby God » Sat Jan 08, 2011 2:54 pm

Hey all, I am thinking I want to get rid of the battery bag on my M4, what's a good crane stock to look for? I've found an Element crane stock for ~$20, but does it hold batteries or work well? I need it for a Classic Army M15.

Get one off tiger111hk. I've seen a lot of cheap ones there. I bought an LE stock off there for about 10 bucks a few months ago. Shipping sucked, however.

The Echo 1 crane stocks are pretty affordable and decent quality. They'll hold pretty much every commonplace battery meant for the crane stock.

Also, I have a question of my own. I've been considering switching to a small 7.2v lipo and was wondering if I would have to change stock tubes to accomidate it? I really want to get an MOE stock since the cranes aren't my favorite.

most crane stocks will fit a standard chain/nunchuck style 9.6v 1200-1400mah battery.

as for the 7.2 lipo, they fit in most buffer tubes that ive seen. it really is a tiny battery. you might need to shorten your wires a bit so there isn't a bunch of extra to cram in there, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

This battery would be my first choice if I wanted to run a Lipo and a MOE stock. It'll last about as long as a 9.6v 1200mah nunchuck, and it fits perfectly in the buffer tube.

If I only have those small block batteries(3 in 2 rows with 1 on top), will I need a new battery to get fit in to a crane stock?

yep. that is a mini 8.4v. the crane stocks take the chain/nunchuck type.

I have an 8.4v NiMh crane style battery I'd sell you for $20 shipped. It's wired to deans.

If I get a stock I'll be interested. But right now I don't want to get ahead of myself. Thanks though. I'm using mini-tamiya... If I switch to deans, all I'd need to do is solder on the deans, right? After cutting off the minis that is.

If this is your main AEG, I wouldn't rewire it to deans. If you're not good with a solder gun then you'll just mess it up and end up with a mess. But if you know how to do it, better batteries are available with deans connectors.

I'm coming across a problem I'm kind of alarmed about... My gun is currently rear-wired with the wires poking out of the lower receiver. Not through the buffer tube... Am I screwed on the crane stock? It's sounding like people say they normally run their wires through the buffer tube... Would it be hard to change to go through the buffer tube?

not usually, you usually just have to remove the tube and re-route the wires through it.
