Hop up effectiveness

Postby The Murse » Fri Apr 01, 2011 2:53 pm

So I have Three/ Four questions.

1)What version of hop ups are the best (M16, AK, G3)

2) What brand of hop up is the best bang for buck.

3)Does a metal vs plastic or 1 piece vs 2 piece hop up make a big difference in performance

1. All are close enough to where it doesn't really matter if they can hold their place.

2. Lonex/Bravo, I hear the modify is nice but expensive.

3. Material, not really, but the only nicely made plastic chamber I know of is the VFC. There is a report somewhere proving the 2 piece unit isn't as good as the 1 piece but I can't remember where to find it.

All of these are just my opinions, though.

One nice benefit of one-piece hopups is they can handle a little more spring tension from mags before they misfeed. With a lot of midcaps and (realcaps especially, mags with lower spring tension) it's not a big deal.

However, I have 190rnd MAG brand midcaps. With a 1-piece hopup, you can put in 175 rounds or so no prob and shoot fine. However, with most two-piece hopups (like the one in my M4), I can only load about 80 rounds before they have major problems. The two-piece design is just slightly more sh***y and allows the flexing/separation of parts. Depends on your application of course, and what youre expecting.

Im not really sure what youre going for, but most sane people know to go TM if good hopup makes you happy.

TM AK Hop-ups are legendary, and are EXTREMELY sensitive. Not sure if they sell the whole shootin' match online though, if I can find one I'll post it here.

1. The TM M14 design is the most consistent. Other models have their quirks, but they all do what they're supposed to... except the SRC G36 units.
2. Firefly. I've used SCS, H-nubs, 2GX buckings, etc. and the original Firefly bucking is by far the best. As far as standard buckings go, Madbull blue's do the job nicely.
3. As mentioned, no not really.
For every action (Bang) there is an equal and opposite reaction (HIT!)

Icepick: By sensitive do you mean very touchy to adjustment?
I've found with RS hop-ups (my friend's SVD and my Type 97) they have a sweet spot but a single click more a less is a noticeable difference.

If you're one to have a very precise place you want your hop-up, chase down the ones that click into place and dont roll themselves around.
