DM gun

Postby ducks4t » Thu Apr 28, 2011 7:29 pm

So i have FINALLY narrowed it down to two guns for a DMR. The first one is the A&K SR25, http://www.hitguns.com/A-K-S-25-Sniper- ... K-SR25.htm , or the G&G GR16 R4, http://www.airsoftoutletnw.com/index.ph ... &Itemid=28 . What one would be a better DMR? Thank you for your help.

A designated marksman cannot be effective with a stock gun... the minimum upgrades to be effective would be a tightbore and a new hopup (or at least bucking).

Of the two, I believe the G&G will have better performance out of the box.

Oh my. Just on looks i'd go with the G&G, considering mags m4 style have tons of choices, on internals G&G are pretty solid.
And besides your buying local and AONW are really helpful, really

Talk to Jewish Ninja about his A&K SR-25. I got to shoot it a few times and it was sick. That being said, I'm not taking the A&K over the G&G. Just throwing another option out there.

My SR-25 has a madbull 6.03 barrel, new bucking/nub/hop up unit and a systema PSG1 150% (or 160%) spring in it..

I'd suggest the M16 over the SR mainly due to how massive the SR is, but if that's not an issue, I'd take the SR-25. If you do go the SR route, you need to use a PSG1 spring in it due to the longer GB. I had a madbull M120 in it before I changed springs and it would only shoot 380 or so. Having a slightly longer spring helps a lot. The stock performance of the SR-25 isn't that amazing but I didn't buy it without the plans of upgrading it, so it was a nonissue to me. I'd also get a couple Magpul PTS 20LR mags for it. They look the tits and feed great in mine. Also the madbull 650mm barrel will fit in this gun with the can attached. It stops about 5mm short of the can.

If your planning on upgrading this when funds allow, I'd stick with the M16 since it'll be more useable for non DM roles (don't try to be a DM with a stock gun unless you don't like hitting targets).

tl;dr buy the SR-25 if you have the money to upgrade it right away. Otherwise buy the G&G and upgrade when you can.

how much does it cost to upgrade the hop up like you did? Because I could save up a little more money and do that but I would have to wait a little longer. Or should I just stick with the G&G?

I just did the A&K SR25 thing, stock performance isn't good past 120 feet. I added the madbul barrel 6.03 (509 mm), blue bucking and modify hop up, and 2 pmags. Plus you have to replace the fire selector switch to make it semi only. Price it out at AONW.

The stock spring and the new barrel & hop up put me right at 450 fps with 0.2. Still playing with the hop up to get better consistency, I've had it apart about 10 times changing the nub, bucking, aligning and cleaning. Grouping isn't as tight as I want yet and the modify hop up unit is touchy to adjust. Using an 11.1 lipo the trigger response is amazing and it sounds sick.

I'm impressed with the quality, it is easy to take apart and reassemble. Had to file around the hop up unit to get a good fit.

Heavy, heavy, heavy. Better do your pushups, lots of them. With a scope and a bipod attached the thing is a pig.

Ducks, if your not willing to spend the money right out of the gate it get it performing like a DMR, then get the G&G M4 and use it as an assault rifle until you can.

Madbull blue bucking: $12
Madbull UHPU: $40
Madbull 6.03 barrel: $30
Polarstar nub: $8
Systema spring: $20
Pmag: $25
Lipo (you need one with it) $25+

Phiz, I ran a ziptie through the selector to stop it from shooting FA.

Alright, I think Im sticking with the GR16. What upgrades would I HAVE to do to make it a good DMR?

TBB, Hop up, anything to get good compression and CONSISTENCY. Unlike my capitalization in the last sentence.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider it a DMR unless it shot a higher FPS than 400 and you were using really heavy bb's, along with perfect hopup/barrel upgrades. A lot of "rifleman" already have guns shooting ~400FPS, with the hopup and barrel as upgraded as it gets, so what would make your gun a DMR over the others?

FPS really is less important than you might think.

I recently tried 0.40g BBs in my AEG (400 FPS). I was impressed to say the least. A good powerful hopup and accurate, consistent design can be amazing. These things fired awesome. Now I'm considering forking out the cash for Bioval 0.40gs from ASGI.

I would lean to the M4 as Jew covered. Don't stress all your resources to being a DM right off the batt, get familiar with the gun and upgrade it "slowly..." "...over time" as you mentioned.

I don't subscribe to the belief that you need to replace all the internals to have a useful weapon or distinct advantage over other players.
