AEG Cylinder Question

Postby Helo » Wed Aug 31, 2011 6:33 pm

Hi guys,

In making my Tabuk I added a 590mm barrel without changing the cylinder. Before anyone says 'Don't go over 509' I tried. It was waay too short.

So. What kind/brand of cylinder should I be looking at? I read somewhere that an M16 cylinder should be enough but I may need to change the cylinder head to an AK one. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,
Helo

Version 2 and version 3 cylinders heads are different, you might not need a v3 head particular to the AK though.

Cylinders can go with any cylinder head. It's the gearbox you need to worry about when it comes to compatibility. If the Tabuk is what I'm thinking it is (Iraqi DMR) Then you are going to want a full non ported cylinder with a nice sealing V3 cylinder head (the ones with the 2 o rings). That all can be had on the cheap cheap as SHS makes some surprisingly nice air seal parts..

ALSO -> Since you are exceeding the 509 you might look into the whole "Bore up" thing to increase your efficiency of the air system. The reason I say that is because the longer barreled guns like the PSG-1 gearbox (V4 i think) uses an elongated cylinder to compensate for the added barrel length, so you are going to need to compensate for the extra 80 or so mm's

Any non-ported cylinder will get you close. On a long barrel like that, for optimal performance, you would want a bore-up cylinder set.

For bore up parts I'd look into Guarder stuff :D

Airsoft Outlet NW has a lot of Bore-Up parts on clearance. Get a Systema or Modify bore-up kit on clearance from then and just change the air nozzle to match your gun.
