SRC M4 Reshim help

Postby Tork » Fri Jun 29, 2012 5:20 pm

My SRC is quite loud and sounds like it's grinding..... can anyone point me in the right direction for services or a step-by-step with a relube/reshim of an M4 GB?

Try adjusting your motor height before you go screwing with the gearbox. Barring that if you aren't experienced in the inner workings of a gearbox, something as advanced as a shim-job is seriously better left to the 'pros'.

If your motor adjustment doesn't fix it, you have bigger problems than shims.

Buying a new gearbox seems a little extreme if it's just a little too loud for your tiny baby ears.

If it really bothers you or if it's really a problem and adjusting the motor up and down hasn't helped, you should take it to an experienced tech before you go and just buy a new gearbox.

And if that's not possible you might as well use it until it dies before you buy a new one.

Then when it dies you can open it up and get some hands on knowledge of a gearbox.
They're scary, but not as scary as some would have you believe.

lol i'm the same age as you with my "baby ears". it just seems louder than all the m4's i've seen. i won't buy a new gearbox until it dies. hopefully that doesn't happen though :doubt:

eh, watch some youtube video's on how to open one up. Brian @ echo1 has some good ones. Pop that thing open, poke around for a bit, and see what happens. You can't break it (well, you can but it's really hard) you can loose stuff, but if your careful and slow when opening it, it's no problem.

When I did some work on my gearboxes Mechbox.com was also pretty helpful.
Their website is under construction nowadays, but it looks like some of their videos are still up on Youtube.

Also, Torkmastaflex, I'm disappointed in the distinct lack of "colon D" in your last post.
