any guesses on my fps?

Postby binicb2r » Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:38 pm

im running a full metal dboys m4 that has been worxed, shim, regrease, compession, mosfet, soon a 3rd burst system will be built up and maybe itll get a 2 or 3 cell lipo and other msc mods for reliability.

for the life of me i cant get a decent reading on my shooting crony. the pop can test tells me a .20 from that gun will penetrate both sides of the can like butter and almost penetrate the bottom. the shooting crony says 240ish with good consistency thought i did get 2 perfect 389s one evening ( a true 360 or something around there with .25converted to joules then fps with a .20 bb). comparing to my gas pistol that the crony says is pretty consistant around 300-330 it shoots noticibly hotter. it still ranges 100-120+ feet accurately. all cronoing i do is with the hopup at proper level for the bbs im cronoing with.

i want to be safe and legal, what is the best guess for my fps you guys think? any other methods i can try to crono with?

do that all the time, hence the shooting crony. we used to have a madbull crono but that was junk so we got a real crono. for some reason we cant get it to work too reliably, it seems perfect with some guns and very low with others. my m4 and a couple of the newbies guns are the only unknowns. it sometimes registers my old g36c, shooting 330, properly but generally its 30+ fps low on that gun. for some reason it will work fine with white bbs then only with the greens and.... you know how it goes.

i built my g36 not to hurt and want the m4 to be the same.

The real deal shooting chronographs can sometimes have a hard time reading airsoft guns. If its the model I'm thinking of with the green body and the two V shaped sets of arms that you shoot through, it's reliability is VERY dependent on how much light there is. I use one of the blue mad bull chronographs, and it works great. Just have to remember to change the battery from time to time. If you can get your gun in to AONW they will chrono it for you as well.

next time im up in portland ill grab it and drop by AONW.

its the one your thinking of, updated model and different color, i think, but yes. the most accurate readings have been with artificial light. you would run in terror if i told you about the setup we had going to make it run and do artificial lighting before we got a proper 9v battery.

our madbull had crappy energizer rechargeables in it ( coming from the rc word the energizers have to be the worst rechargeable batteries ever made IMHO ), probably part of the problem. it never was as good as the original shooting crony we had that was stolen before i came to be a club officer.

wish i had it with me to play with but its back about 100 miles at the college i attend.

Yeah, the madbulls only work reliably when they have good batteries in them. Once the voltage starts dropping it goes all over the place. I just keep spares in my airsoft bag with the thing.

From your listed mods, none of them should increase the FPS other than compression improvements. Even then, probably not more than a few FPS. Unless you changed the spring, and you're not doing CQB, you'll be well within legal field limits for an AEG. As far as not hurting people, where's the fun in that?

Machismo bullshit like that is why I don't go to many games anymore. A player goes in knowing there's a good chance they may get hurt, it's part of the game and you accept it. But the asshats that play to hurt other players are the worst kind of people.

Agreed. I applaud you, Binic. It's pretty awesome to see someone thinking about other people. That's spectacular. As to a way to reliably chrono your gun, the guys at Oregon Airsoft Arena will (I think,) chrono your gun for you. TacOps definitely will.

Good luck!

If you don't follow fps limits or wait until people are unnecessarily close to you then that is not cool but everything else is legit imo.

I think sarcasm was meant in that comment. Over reaction is another problem at games and makes it just as not fun as people trying to hurt each other.

Sarcasm or no, I know there are many people out there with that exact mindset. They play airsoft so they can hurt people. That shit isn't cool.

Yes. But it's not a reason to quit going to games. That's like saying there's some asshats out there that drive drunk, so I'm not going to drive anymore. I think more admins on the field is the best thing you can do to stop the uncool crap.

Perhaps I'll clarify: Machismo bullshit like that is one of the reasons why I don't go to many games anymore.

My apologies, that was a joke. I should clarify that even though airsoft is a game where we play dress up then pretend to hunt and kill eachother, I do not try to hurt people. I always observe FPS limits and do my best to maintain engagement distances.
