Could I install a rifle length Handguard on my M4 AEG?

Could I install this handguard: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=9068 and just use the normal m4 outer barrel and just move my front triangle site forward?

No. Your front post sits on the outer barrel. Why not just get the M4 length hand guard? They make one.

The outer barrel of an AR-15 has two grooves that help keep the front sight post attached and in place with two pins. You can't simply move that forward to use a longer foregrip/rail, unless you take that off.

On my AR, I have a 9" DD rail and a 10.5" outer. The outer barely sticks out past the rail, so I can't use a front sight post.

With the MOE foregrip, you can't use it because by taking off the front sight post, you take off the entire assembly of the front post, including the front ring that helps keep it together.

Second, link that RIS system.

Yeah, with that rail system, you don't need the front ring to keep it stable and such, but you're still obviously sacrificing the front sight post because of the length. If you were to get the 7" RIS system, you can keep all that front post stuff.

Theoretically, if you really wanted, you could remove your original front sight, and either buy a clamp-on one or cut new grooves in your outer barrel, and mount the front sight post really far forward to use the MOE handguard. You had the right idea to start with, but it would take a bit of work to re-cut new grooves.

The free float rail idea will probably be easier. I honestly like the longer rails, and I think you will too once you get to messing around with different configuration options. I would go with a 9" or 12" and put a flip down front sight on the end.

...but you'll still look silly with a 7-9" barrel and a 12" RIS.

Throw a can on it.

Now, it looks less silly.

Your making things more complicated than it needs to be. Use a free float tube, low pro gas block, and then slap on a set of flip up BUIS sights. Done.

Maybe it's me, but I missed where he said he had a 7-9" barrel. If it's a standard M4 carbine, it's a 14.5 inch barrel, and civilian shooters and the military often use a 12" rail on a 14.5 or 16" barrel.
