Here's an excellent tutorial on using mil-dot and MOA scope reticles for range estimation. After you've gone through it, try the long range shooting demo.

Good find. i wish the range calculations were more estimates. It's easier to do whole numbers in your head, but to get the answers, you need to know that a target is 2.94 mils, which is rediculously specific.

This will be invaluable in the future for me Gunny, at least airsoft-wise. Now I can get my team to give ranges more accurately in the field.

Thanks man!

This is actually pretty cool. I'm not a bolt-puller, but it's fun to try and calculate all of the ranges, target sizes, etc.

Regarding the demonstration only, is anyone finding an issue when they get result X versus the actual range without regard for bullet drop? In other words, are you getting a result of (random example) 450 yards, but the real range is 700+ yards?

I thought I was getting old (and I am, of course) so I broke out the cheat sheets. Lo and behold I'm doing it right. Anyone else?
