Which sniper rifle do you suggest

Postby Charon » Sat May 31, 2008 8:34 am

I will buy a sniper rifle soon. I'm having trouble to decide which one. Here are my nominees.

Maruzen Type 96 w/ bi-pod
TM PSG-1 w/ custom bi-pod grip
KJW R700

All of these sniper rifles are different types of airsoft guns. Spring, electric, and gas. I know how to work with all of them. What I don't know is which one to get. Externally, what would you say is better, the KJW or Maruzen? If I end up with the PSG-1 I will definately through on a metal body, but I don't know which one.

I also don't know which brand makes the best upgrades for these guns, except I know Systema does make very nice upgrades for the PSG-1.

Thank you in advance.

I can recommend against the PSG-1. Its heavy, big, expensive to upgrade, and you can't have it above 400 around these parts.

I have all the money to spend on making such a gun, so long the gun itself isn't above $500.

I'm still gonna recommend against the PSG1 for the same reasons, its heavy, big, and not that great even when its upgraded.

The KJW is nice for its no resistnace bolt, but the consistancy is not great. Ide trust my KJW to hit targets at 70-90 ft 100% of the time from a standing position. But past that Ide proabably move in. At about 250ft, my KJW is 4/10 on a mansize most of the time. Sometimes youll get 10 staright shots right downrange, sometimes you get 2 shots that are straight. The L96 would be a great sniper rifle, besides the fact that it is reletively heavy, and the bolt is spring. But im sure you could make it a great consistant bolt.

70-90 feet 100% of the time isn't that impressive. My friends upgraded M16 A3 can do that.

The KJW R700 is the lightest, it has to be. Weight doesn't matter, I'll take it. Gas weapons are never consistent.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Maruzen Type 96 (L96). It is the cheapest, and I do prefer spending $400 with upgrades opposed to $700 with upgrades for a Marui PSG-1.

Go with the Type 96. They are very good and if upgraded correctly will have only a few pounds of resistance on the bolt.

I currently have a T96 and in the process of upgrading, not to sniper quality but more of an accurized rifle. I can tell you one thing, first thing to purchase is a PDI hop chamber because all of the sites have been stocking them now, it allows you to use a normal AEG barrel and hopup bucking.

if you want a sniper system at least in these parts i would strongly recommend a bolt type platform, they are allowed to 550 fps whereas a PSG1 would only be able to go to 400, and for this area i would also recommend a spring bolt over a gas bolt (unless its an HPA gas setup) to provide for more consistency of shots. I, my self have a Classic Army M24, but from your list i would recommend the L96

Jester isn't in these parts, so the velocity is a moot point.

That being said, I think it'd be cool to have a PSG-1 like that.

I think the Maruzen is probably going to be the most efficient.

I would only do the KJW if you were converting it to HPA.

What should be deciding your choice of platform is the consistent variables at this point since each one is a different style instead of body. Each has a different "sweet spot" in the field where it is most effective.

Each will have a different cost from upgrades depending on how far you want to take them. A few hundred in upgrades is rather common.

Having a pretty gun won't save your a$$ in the field, but the right tool can. Tell us a little more about what you want to use it in the field for. This will help your decision.

I had a maruzen type 96 and of was fun. Never got around to upgrading it but it was fun. I would rather have had a ca m24 though. But if you upgrade a sniper be prepared to dump money into it and learn how to maintain it. Otherwise you will be sadly diappointed WHEN something goes wrong.

Off-Topic: I have your Maruzen Type 96. Its changed hands many times, and I fully intend in upgrading it, just waiting on parts right now :( .
