First sniper platform

Postby Munky » Thu Jul 15, 2010 12:53 am

As the title says first time trying this so I went cheap (like $15 bucks cheap ;) ). My best friend won a UTG M324 at the first faction wars years back and used it while working on his JG BAR-10 G-Spec. In the mean time he modified an APS-2 madbull python for it and that was all.

Now I'm in possession of her. I've thrown a Tasco 3-9x40mm on it and picked up a few mags. It hits at ~400fps maybe a little over. I'm hooting with .28s and most of the time I can get her to hit a head sized target at ~110ft.

Now, enough with the sob story. My question to you experienced marksmen (namely KA-BAR), is this rifle worth trying to find upgrades for and if I find them will they be worth the price? I already know that in order to have a have decent sniper weapon it takes a ridiculous amount of time and money to get it on par but I really haven't decided on whether or not this is the role for me. If it is the eventually I'd like to have an upgraded TM VSR or CA M24.

Thank you for your time,

Zak

P.S. Keep your hater comments to yourself, please and thnk you.

If it is compatible with the APS2 parts (which I am pretty sure it is) you could go to Airsoft Outlet NW and pick up one of the 2 APS2 upgrade kits. I recently grabbed the Echo 1 ASR kit. They are APS2 parts re-branded under the Echo 1 name.

I also have experience with both the VSR and the CA M24. If you want a gun that will be compatible with APS2 parts get a CA M24. But be warned, make sure you get one of the new ones, as they have been slightly reworked on the outside to make the replica more durable (mostly the screws that hold the receiver to the stock). I have mine shooting right around 550fps.

The VSR is a lot more toy-like than the M24. That being said its also much lighter. The VSR can be made to shoot very well (KA-BAR can give you more of the details of modding it). My only complaint when I owned one is that with a scope on the top, the replica felt very top heavy seeing as the stock was made of plastic.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

Chris

Didn't realize you live in Washington so I will give you a parts list for each:

APS2:

Guarder Precision Piston Head for APS2 Series

VSR:
Laylax Zero Trigger with Piston Set for Marui VSR10

For anything spring related I would shoot KA-BAR a PM. He had a great guide on another website.

i dont think they are actually APS-2 compatible since there was modding to get the barrel to fit and work right

if its a UTG M324 then you need to find out what generation it is. if it is gen 3 or earlier, chances are your cylinder is stamped shut and un upgradeable.....but, UTG makes a upgrade kit for their M324's that is a new cylinder, and a new barrel. i am going to say that your stock sears are probaly 45degree angled and made out of pot metal. these will not withstand a stronger spring. you will bust apart in no time flat.

the UTG M324's are NOT maruzen compatible. the mags were VSR style mags, unlike the L96's. so once you do get a upgradeable cylinder, you can then stick some VSR parts in it, like a new piston/spring guide/spring.... but only after you have upgraded those pathetic sears.

thats all i got for ya man, hope it helps you.

and by the way zak i spent less on my TSD fully upgraded then you will spend on any stock platform that you just mentioned. look into my articvle called "cheap sniper rifles and the noob 2.0"

i belive it got stickied.

Cberan, be cautious on the Echo 1 ASR kits. We have noticed that some of them are not quite up to the standards on springs that the UTG are. I thought they were the exact same as well, but nearl 1/3 of them came with springs that did not give the velocity that the UTG kit did.
