A funny thing inside a mag

Postby Tankwitch » Fri Jun 21, 2013 7:08 pm

I have acquired KJW P226 from a team mate with a non-functioning mag and an interesting problem.

Figuring that the O-ring inside the mag was the problem I opened the reservoir, replaced the O-ring and made sure it was lubricated. But inside rattling around is a hollow cylinder of brass. I have no clue what this is or its function. What do I have here and any tips on a repair for it?
I'm a major chairsofter, sorry about that.

Think of it as an extender tube for the fill valve.

I THINK it is to keep any liquid propane that enters the reservoir from going back into the fill area and freezing the tiny little fill valve o-rings.

Makes sense, but if it is just rattling inside the mag doesn't that mean the whole mag is shot?

You can reattach them with a little JB weld. Had the same problem on a mag a while back and it ended up working fine.

Nope. You should be able to just press it back in to place (or JB weld it if you want). It should sit perfectly around the fill valve on the inside of the reservoir.

Right. The JB weld is pretty much the excessive touch of a madman, actually. Unless the brass tube was damaged, or a hard impact really messed something up, you should be okay without gooping up the fill valve and tube into the magazine.
