Can I use Petroleum Jelly on my Airsoft gun?

Postby Jmonday » Fri Jun 28, 2013 6:23 pm

I recently went and bought the H&K USP, and I have quick question, I was wondering if I would need a sort of lubricant for it? This is my first ever Gas pistol! :) I was thinking just putting it on the very top of the Co2 cartridge, like it states in the manual, but I wasn't sure what to use. Can you help a n00b out? :D

Silicon lube. You can get it at most hobby shops and hardware stores. I wouldn't get too excited, though. A Co2 powered Umarex doesn't say "reliability" to me, now matter how you lube it.

Yes, but it's a great starter gun to have. I like it, haven't lubed it up yet. Shoots a hefty 345.

You know if Permatex dielectric grease works? I've spent an hour looking around, and thats what I spotted. Or even Gunk brand Plumber's Silicone Grease at Lowe's.

Silicone shock oil for RC cars (in 15weight). Gold Cup Paintball Lube. 100% PURE silicone oil from the hardware store... all will work just fine - DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE! - alot of other 'lubricants' have chemicals in them that are for metal lubrication, and are actually harmful to the gaskets and seals in your gun.

If your insisting on buying from Lowes, for example, simply ask an employee for "Pure Silicone lube" and they'll take you straight to it. Then be sure to buy the correct type that is ONLY 100% PURE SILICONE OIL with no other chemicals.

Seriously though - it would be easier to find a local hobby shop and just buy some shock oil.

Don't cut corners. It's worth it in the end for the life of your guns.

*On a side note, if you were to complete your profile information, we might be able to guide you to a better location to buy the things your looking for. If your in Salem, for example, there are 3 RC hobby shops around town, and all of them carry the kind of Silicone your looking for.*

Yeah, thanks for the help! I'm just gonna run into Lowe's and grab some. If you can't tell, I'm new to this Air-soft.

Don't make the other mistake of using WD-40, either.

White lithium grease is one of these harmful lubes. But only for the O-rings and maybe the plastics.

It works very well as gear grease though, and i would actually recommend it for gear grease, just dont get it on the piston heads and nozzle. As for a GBB pistol, use pure silicon oil. works great, easy to find

I've used white lithium grease on my guns for years now, including o-rings.

Never had an o-ring failure...

I bought the white lithium at my local Home Depot for $4. I lubed it up, not one leak yet! Also, should I store the Co2 in-side, still charged?
