Any Sig P229 replica experience out there?

Postby MillerSA15 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 9:22 pm

I would like to pick one up for training purposes, but I would like some feedback first, preferably from someone that has fired both. Alternatively, if you have one that you would be willing to let me try out for a few minutes and possibly shoot a mag or two, that would also work nicely.

Thanks!

Any specific questions that you have in mind?

I have some brief experience with the KJW P229, a lot of experience with the KWA P226, and some decent range time with a real 229/6.

Just how good of a replica/ training platform would the 229, or even the 226 make? The 229 would probably be better for developing draw, holster, and reloading muscle memory. That depends on if it is a faithful replica though.

A 229 isn't that much smaller than a 226, so the muscle memory wouldn't really change between the two.

I had a KSC 229 and it was pretty awesome.

Part of the muscle memory equation is using the same holster, so that is a strong reason for the 229 over a 226, unless the 226 would fit? I'm not very familiar with anything besides the 229.

Well KWA makes a P226 PTP (professional training pistol) so i would imagine it would work as a better training platform. From what i remember of the real 226, they feel identical. Although the trigger pulls are completely different, so dont expect any similar trigger drills from it.

Right, but I'm after the feel and function of a real P229, not a P226.

They use basically the same holster. The 229 is like an inch and a half or two shorter, but that's the only difference.

I've had the KJW Sig P229 for approx. three years, pretty decent gun. All the mags always seem to leak terribly though.
If I remember correctly, the tech at AONW (Jesse) said he'd had decent luck fixing them somehow.

If you're interested, PM me. I wouldn't mind selling it, along with the Serpa.

Did you handle a real P229 during that time? If so, how did the KJW stack up, in terms of attention to details.

Huh, good to know.
