Eye/face pro, cheap boots buying locations and suggestions

Discussion of load-bearing equipment, tactical gear, holsters, BDUs, and other gear related to Airsoft.

You guys are so awesome, im a big gamer so I go to gaming forums a lot and for a question similar in nature to the one I asked it would be full of Trolls with Flamethrowers and general A holes, yet all I get here is actual good advice that answers the questions I asked, its amazing. Maybe ill throw away my flame suit. :D

I felt that had to be said, thanks again guys.

To answer Darius first, I did go searching through the forums and nearly all the ones I looked at didn't have the answers I was looking for or the post was quite old, and being new to a forum with a "Necropost" rule I'm a little nervous about breaking it, see the previous paragraph to understand why. :)

Also Darius, when you say you don't like looking through the Mesh goggles, can you give me some details as to why, that's what I'm looking for, does it make it harder to identify targets or details, harder to focus, or just generally uncomfortable for the eyes?

Just to clarify the reason I need full face protection, eye pro is obviously required for, as far as I can tell, 99.9% of the events. I need some sort of mouth guard because I recently lost a tooth in an unfortunate sandwich incident, don't ask it takes a while to explain, but I currently am sporting a fake tooth that cost me $500 with insurance and its going to cost over $2000 out of pocket just to replace the tooth itself with insurance!!! So losing the $500 tooth would be very bad and probably kill the entire game permanently. Its much more fragile than a normal tooth so I can't let it take any hits, even small ones.

Jester316: The balaclava/shemagh/large, after my previous clarification, will this protect my teeth from any hit? I like the idea of the balaclava/shemagh/large, I like being on the underdog team, and it sounds like the Opfor are the underdogs in most cases. JIHAD!!!!!!

Big5 sounds like the place to go, that's the third suggestion to go there for boots, and these will be just cheap alternative to tennishoes until I can afford better boots.

After every ones help, it looks like I will be going with clear lenses and some sort face guard, I might buy mesh and clear and see which I like best. I still only know one place that sells this stuff locally and that's AONW, I'm hoping to find a place that sells those mesh face masks locally. I like the mesh face masks from that Bitter End web site, do they have a local store where I can buy their products? The reason this cant be ordered online is I wont have enough money until Friday the 15th and I need at least the protection by the 17th, no delivery on the weekend. :(

Its also been suggested by Jewish Ninja that I find some ALICE gear from an army surplus store, iv been looking for a local one, does anyone have any suggestions for a specific store to go to? I know I'm probably over thinking all this and will probably just show up with my gun, a lot of water and a face mask, but I hope to be partially prepared, and have some fun.

Thanks again,
Savage

I've heard Oakley boots are also the crem de la crem, but have no experience with them.

Hey Jester, I use the Oakley boots at work and they are fantastic! Extremely durable and comfortable. I've used their Tac Shoes before and they are also comfortable (not recommended for Airsoft since no ankle support). I buy mine from https://secure.usstandardissue.com/ You need someone that has military or LEO credentials to buy them if you want a discount.

I know multiple people with LEO/.mil discounts, and I also heard that fire service can get discount too (which I'm part of). I'd love to get a pair of Oakley boots, but lack the necessary $$$.

Savage, if you are worried about teeth getting shot out, don't smile. Seriously, I don't know of a single person that had their tooth shot out while their mouth was closed (insert appropriate proof of my being wrong here...). If you want an added layer of protection, Big5 sells mold-able mouth guards that seem to work for at least upper tooth protection. I would think the combination of shemagh/mouth guard/closed mouth would be plenty.

Unfortunately I cant wear a mouthguard that goes over my teeth, the temporary tooth is like a retainer with a fake tooth attatched to the front and makes that kind of equipment very hard to wear. I guess I could just take it out before a game, but I seriously look very silly and risk getting a very humorous callsign from others on my team. :D Thanks for the advice though, ill probably go that route as soon as I get my tooth back only $1000 to go.

Hey Savage, I have a Bitter End lower face mask and/or the Save Face mask that you are more than welcome to use, as I am not using it myself. It is good quality stuff, but I just can't get it to fit me comfortably at all. Maybe I have a weird shaped face or something. Anyways, if you are going to the Silverton skirm on the 17th, which I am not, maybe I can give it to Jester to bring to you. That is if Jester is going, which I assume he is. Jester? Anyways, that will give you the option of trying these out. Like I said, I don't wear either, and I would be more than happy to help a fellow newb out. Anyways, if you are interested let me know, and I'll see if I can coordinate something with Jester to get them to him before Sunday.

As of right now, it is doubtful I'm going. I tweaked my back a few days ago, and my cousin is coming down for the weekend too. Possible going, but not likely.

Sorry to hear about your back Jester. That is never a fun thing to have to deal with. Well, I PMd another guy from Corvallis that may be going, in case Savage wants to try either of these out. Thanks for your reply though, and take care.

The mesh goggles are all personal preference. People say you get used to them. I have never tried. I don't fog up goggles so I'm good.

I would gladley take it off your hands Chachi. That would be realy cool if youd be willing to let me buy it or just borrow it for the day. I did intend to buy one later just because I like the look and the protection value they have. Ill probably get a pair of the goggles later too, but im a little pressed for time if I want to get to this game, so I was gonna go the cheap route at first.

Im glad you guys in this forum are so friendly, its kinda strange when you think about it, I mean you guys go out there and shoot each other with high speed projectiles for fun, and yet your the coolest bunch iv met in a long time. Makes you wonder what the world would be like if everyone had airsoft guns and no bullets. :)

conflicts would still rage around the world, but it'd take a lot longer to kill someone. Probably 20,000 rounds, as opposed to 3.

That'd be scary. Think of the people that would be accepted into the service.
People sprinting at people trying to get a face shot and then just knife dueling it out.
Kick me. I go "Moooooooo!!!!!"

He's gonna make me cry. I'd argue that we're friendly...sometimes. We can also be pretty harsh. For example, you use proper English so you're not getting thrashed for how you post.

I'd say we help each other out BECAUSE we shoot each other. Nothing builds camaraderie like having a guy give you cover fire when there's a whole fire team trying to take you out.
