Goggle recommendation?

Postby Alien_Hunter » Tue Mar 12, 2013 2:35 pm

Hi name's mitch, this is my second post here after migrating from Red Alliance. I am looking a pair of full-seal goggles with a good anti fog coating. Since I have a very long face I prefer low profile goggles. Looking to spend $50 or less dollars.

Smith boogie regulators, I highly recommend them and revision anti-fog wipes for your price range.

The Boogies need to be modded because they fog very easily. Notching the foam so they vent better and removing the slider vent helps. Anti-fog wipe is a must. Other than that, they are the best goggle as far as being low profile, low weight, and non-restrictive view.

Fog is created from moisture in the air. With full seal goggles, you begin to sweat creating moisture, the heat from your head causes that moisture to evaporate, the goggles seal in that moisture and as it hits the cooler plastic of the goggles it condenses and creates a thin layer of beaded moisture that we call fog. If you sweat a lot, or if your head gets quite warm you will ALWAYS have fogging issues. No set of goggles will fix this. There are a few goggle systems that have a fan in them to help alleviate the problem by changing the air out inside the goggles and help cool off your face. However these systems are pretty pricy and run on batteries, so you have to have a battery pack attache to your goggles. You also have to make sure you're changing out the batteries regularly epically with how often you have to run them while on the airsoft field to keep from fogging. Although anit-fog wipes work for a while. There have been times when I have gone through 3 wipes in one day (and that's multiple uses with each wipe) because I have serious fogging issues.
I have heard good things about this stuff https://www.google.com/search?q=Cat+Crap+Anti-Fog&hl=en&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=Wqc_UbbbKJOrqQHroYCABg&ved=0CFwQsxg&biw=1152&bih=679 but have never personally used it.
The way I run is with an pair of ESS low profile goggles, and an extra pair of shooter glasses. When my goggles fog, I slip into the shooter glasses for a bit and then back into your goggles once they have cooled off. If your running indoor events where goggles are required, I'd suggest wearing them when in combat and between rounds slip into the shooter glasses. But remember the longer the goggles are warm (around your head or neck) the cooler the plastic will be compared to the inside of the goggles and the more fogging issues you will have.

A quick EBAirsoft search also came up with these...

I saw those boogie regulators. But what's the 'Asian Fit' that airsoftgi has? Probably pick up a pair soon. Right now there's too much already in the mail :D

I'll pick up some of this 'cat crap' when I make my next order.

As the name implies, it is literally for Asian people, or others who's nose bridge is genetically slimmer and probably non-existent. As with this problem, glasses will rest on the cheekbones or slide down the face, and when you're shooting pellets at children and grown adults or doing any rigorous activity, they will possibly fall off your face.

I personally am blessed with having a higher-than-average-Asian bridge.

That is all.

I'd check out ESS NVG Profile goggles. I've used mine for airsoft and was issued a pair in the Marine Corps and they have served me pretty well for the most part. For extra fog resistance you can tear out the foam on the sides to get a little more air flow, and I think they sell goggle fans for them too.

MSRP is like $90, but you can get them for a LOT less than that on ebay and whatnot, since they're military issue.

My arena Flakjaks feel great, and go great with mesh masks or no mask at all. The airflow is great, especially with the little grates removed. Another recommendation is any save phace mask with their thermal lenses. Absolutely no fogging.

Oh yes one question, does the padding inside the Smith goggles peel/fall off? My cheap ASGI goggles headed for the trash can pretty soon because of that reason.

Do yellow lenses help in a shadowy forest environment? or stick with clear?
