MC is a great, now if we can only stop issuing black guns that stand out like a whore in church.

Dirt Cheap Multicam - eh

Postby Coot_Prichards » Tue Apr 27, 2010 10:10 pm

As promised here is my comparison of some Milspec Multicam items to Chinese made Multicam Tac gear and ACU.

Image

Overall impressions viewing under "inside" light:

A: The chinese ACU cut Multicam (Purchased from Ehobbyasia for $25 a set) seems well constructed enough, the sizing is a bit odd, I had to go XL because they don't make long sizes. The pants are way too big, I look like some kind of raver, and the velcro is crap. Anyway, it's fabricated from some kind of twill blend.

B. In general the camo patterns seemed similar but the colors are more contrasty than the real Multicam items (Boonie / item 3 ). The Darkest color appears nearly black on the chinese variety, but in the authentic fabric it is a deep brown. The same goes for the lightest tone. On the chinese, it is nearly white, and on the authentic it appears to be a very light beige color. In the middle tones one thing that especially jumps out is one of the lighter tan colors, that looks like it should be about "coyote" has shifted to a pinker / peach tone. On the chinese made tac gear the colors were less saturated, but the lightest color was still too light, in comparison to Milspec color.

C. This stuff probably fades out quicker than myself at a movie after a big chicken dinner. I will wash and test.

Conclusion: The reason I bought the cheap multicam set was to play OPThunder Strike that required it. I don't intend to field Multicam just yet as my primary loadout. (I've been enjoying the OPFOR role a bit too much.) I would not recommend the chinese Multicam to any person thinking of seriously using it often. If I do end up getting more Multicam items it will be a Crye or Propper set. Also, from my experience colors / patterns tend to look one way close and another at a distance, so I seriously doubt any knockoff MultiCam can actually provide the same camouflage properties as a real set - from far away I might stand out like a sore thumb! But one time use is probably OK.

On the bright side the chinese waist pack seems to be well constructed and was a real bargain $25. I may have to purchase some black tac gear from ehobbyasia in the future.

Excellent! Thanks again!
Damn..that looks great. Finally a camo that actually can blend in when needed or even when not trying to blend-in. Some people say they don't like multicam...some say they like it. In the end, it's all how the camo is used and which type of terrain each camo pattern will be used. I still think multicam works great in many environments, even though it's been out a while now. It's still one of my favorites and despite what some people say about it, it works quite well (-:

I still can not figure out how ACU was implimented. I can see it being used in an urban city type environment as it works well against a grayish background such as modern high-rises and cement sidewalks..streets..etc but I just can't see how it can work in a remote setting such as cities set back in time where everything is tan and brown still with little to no modern structured buildings..etc.
