Also I have heard Midland radios are good. But what type of headsets work with them and do they run silent? (no annoying beeping) thanks
It depends on what you want to be compatable with. By far it seems that most use Motorolas or Midlands. They work fine within their respective operating parameters. I recommend replacing the included 600 mah battery packs with higher mah rechargeable (2500) battery packs. Radio shack, online etc... has em. This will give you all day comms, as the lower ones crap out in 3-4 hrs.
What I like better are Tri Squares. They seem to work more effectively for us ( CAG) The down side is that they are not compatable with the
above radios. You can get sets (2) of the above for around 60-75 $$. less if you shop around. Many of the high zoot teams are using Icoms etc... these are much more in $$
As far as head sets go, a wide variety of headsets are available. The input jack is the determining factor.
"The beeping" can be turned off.
