Ultralight loadout

Postby shakespeare » Tue Nov 02, 2010 9:55 pm

So, after humping my CIRAS around a few weeks, I have concluded that I like it but I carry too much on it and it's too heavy for the average games I play combined with my play style (I tried to climb a 15 foot rock face on sunday, and almost fell off because of the CIRAS catching on things.) I also end up outmaneuvered by my friends running around in ALICE gear or no gear at all, which kinda sucks.
I'd like to keep my gear under 15 or so lbs.
What I need to carry :
4-6 midcap magazines
2-3L water

I was thinking a TT MAV w/ X harness and a Camelbak would work, but I'm sure there are other options for a lightweight chest rig, or some other loadout. What would y'all recommend?

I have ALICE gear, but I hate the feeling I get on my hips when I cover the belt with a buttpack, 2 canteen pouches, and 2 mag pouches. I just don't like how it rides.

If you get the X-back, get the TT MAV 2-piece, otherwise its a phony pony to get on and off. If you like the format of ALICE gear but want something more modern look at the http://www.google.com/images?q=isaak+ri ... 66&bih=639 ISAAK Rifleman style of gear. I think Condor or someone like that makes a knockoff.

Constructive.

Anyways,

My recommendation would be something like a Condor Compact Plate Carrier or Condor OPS Chest Rig. They are both incredibly light and compact. The CPC offers a bit more protection and obviously more surface area for molle gear. It does not have a cummerbund, so it is quite mobile, but still maintains a molle back panel unlike the smaller chest rig, so you could run a hydration pack instead of a canteen.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that isn't the problem as I work out more than an hour a day (sprints, and weight training, some jogging). I just figure I'll be more effective with a light loadout than a heavy one for the majority of games.

Thank you everyone. I'm probably gonna rock the MAV (hooray for RS gear!) but I just wanted to see if there were any other options.

There's a ton of options in the chest rig category. Just look around at the usual manufacturers and importers.

Will do. I'm looking at the EI universal chest rig on SKD, hows it look, in everyone's opinion?

The Eagle Industries Universal Chest Rig (Active Shooter rig with the EXTRA row of MOLLE on the sides and the front 4 pistol pouches) is a fantastic choice, sir. The TAG Phalanx series is a also a good bargain for what you get.

As much as I like my CIRAS carrier and other carrier set-ups I have...I really like the mobility of my EI Universal, S.O. Tech Falcon and TAG rifleman/SAW chest rig the most.

I had a weesatch, I hated the thing. I don't know why...but it made me angry whenever I wore it.
As of right now, I'm comparing a MAV with the EI universal chest rig. Both seem quite valid, but the EI comes with pouches sewn on and the MAV I would be able to customize as I wished.

But when you wear a fully loaded ALICE belt you have ARM-RESTS!

Try adjusting the suspender system and balancing of the belt. It takes a bit of time and effort (this isn't MOLLE, people), but it will ride just great once you have it tuned right.

Also, 2-3 liters is a lot to be carrying. I usually do 2 liters in the summer in two full canteens (of which I drink one or so) and 0.5-1 liter in the winter in two half full canteens (for balance).

Anyway, ALICE is all about balance.

Hooray for armrests! I'll try to balance my ALICE gear, but I need a new canteen pouch for balance if I plan to use it. (I lent the pouches to a friend to use on his gear, and did not receive all of them back. :( )
