Upgrading from woodland to a Digital outfit

Postby The Murse » Mon Jan 31, 2011 9:29 am

So i recently aquired a SCAR-H and am going to get a new BDU that actually fits to go with it.

I already have an OD plate carrier and tac belt so I wanted to pair it up with either MARPAT or MULTICAM and a Helmet to go with.

1) What works better year round for Oregon's enviorment
2) What is the best cost-benafit Brand to get
3)What kind of helmets do people forces who have SCAR-H's use.

the only guy i have even seen using a SCAR-H in action is this CCT (scroll down to see the pics)

Camo: Multicam is the best all around camo. If you plan to be playing in the different environments that Oregon has multicam would be the best option. But since western Oregon is mostly forest, MARPAT is really effective in the forest areas.

Helmet: MICH 2000 helmets are what most special forces use according to my knowledge. Seals used to use IBH's back in the day, and Navy EOD and some rangers and probably seals also use MICH 2001s, but the pictures on the internet almost always show special forces in MICH 2000s. I am referring to special forces because special forces are the people who get fancy guns like SCARs unlike the issued troops. Look up the loadout forums we have on this sight if you want to see it for yourself.

Brand: Depends, whats your budget, what do you want the pants to have, and what kind of quality? Crye Precision is pricy, but they have everything you could ever want on them. I like Crye :)

Marine Corps has 1,500 SCARs over in Afghanistan, it isn't a toy just for SF.

Marpat, but In my opinion Solid OD BDUs will work best for Oregons environement as well as CQC. OD works better as all around Camos than the ACUs(MC too), trust me I own them, but since you are debating on Marpat and MC, go with Marpat. As for the helmet, get a MICH 2000. And what color is the SCAR?...that matters too.

Either MARPAT or MULTICAM will go with the OD plate carrier, unfortunately for you the question of What works best year round has been a long on going debate, with the only real winner being NOTHING. The colors in Oregon changes from dark lush greens in the late summer and fall, dark browns and greens in the winter, to lighter greens in the spring and back into the summer.
MARPAT is a well versed camouflage, I've seen it work wonders in the fall and winter months, but come spring / early summer it tends to be too dark, This is where Multicam comes into play, with it's lighter pattern, it will work well in the early spring and summer.
So the answer is when and where do you airsoft the most? If it's summer and Fall in well vegetated areas then you should seriously consider MARPAT. If you play in the Spring and summer, or in not dense forested areas, with not as many shadows to hide in, then you should consider Multicam. If you play year round, consider getting a pair of both... Not right away, but get the spring one now (since here comes spring) and the fall one's in the fall...

Another thing to think about, is if you plan on playing with a team or joining a team, what camo pattern do they play with (IE. do you want to play with SOTA, or APST)

My suggestion for helmets is this. If you are going for an impression, afraid you will get shot in the head, or afraid you will hit your head, get a helmet. HOWEVER, if you are just getting one to fit in, or look cool, you will find it's the first thing to come off and sit in the spawn point. They can be hot, clunky, and just extra weight. They give no benefit to being shot in outdoor games and generally make your head a larger target to shoot at and a larger target to see.

As for cost-benefit brand when it comes to uniforms, there is either low cost, like Proper, but their colors tend to fade pretty quickly, at least their multicam does, and I believe this is true of most of their items. The other good alternative is to buying the real deal, search E-bay for good prices and wait till you find one. This way you know you are getting an item that stands up to military standards. There are many knockoff brands some are acceptable copies others are really bad. If you decide to go that rout do your research find someone who has bought one and talk with THEM about it. Not "my friend has one and he thinks..." talk to the owner.

I know your asking for suggestions, but you have to make a decision on what you want before we can help you find what you "should get".

The only people that are issued the SCAR-h/SCAR-L are the 75th Rangers, 2nd Battalion is stationed at JBLM, so if you want to see what they wear uniform wise, look up 75th rangers

It's not just US rangers, It's USSCOCOM in general. On February 24, 2006 the Marine Corps joined USSCOCOM. Chances are good that the MSOR guys use/can use the SCAR rifles if they choose too.

The best camouflage I can tell that fits with a Scar H is solid OD green. It fits a lot of different themes and works in many places.

Also you'll need to trade out your Scar H for a FAL to go with your new camouflage choice.

I'd go with MARPAT, because you could have both patterns. I think your SCAR-H would look nice with OD cammies with a brown/tan rig.

Thanks for your help guys. After reading what is on here I have some general thoughts and questions.

1) Im going to buy multicam because of its adaptability and It will allow me to stand apart from all the people who Have Marpat (nothing against MARPAT, i just like to be a little bit original)

2) does anyone know if i can buy multicam at 'andy and backs' or another army suplus store along wiht a MICH 2000

3) I really am against OD green and 110 percent against getting moon camo (ACU) to copy a ranger. I only like that ACU looks intimidating but hate the fact it makes people appear to be like Ghosts in a forest (not the scary invisible ghosts but the 'im over hear!!" casper ghosts) -end rant

4)Why would i change my SCAR out for an FAL? Maybe in the real world but for airsoft the SCAR litterally is a perfect fit for me. Plus I like how modern it feels. If i if works, why change it?

Thanks for all your help again guys. Im really new to shopping for camo, i still have to research what all the different sizes mean (ex. "LLR') but i can do that on my own.

Andy & baks does sell Multicam... but multicam is the new Noob pattern. EVERYONE and their mother is wearing multicam. So you will stand apart from the MARPAT, but you will be stand with about 200 other people...

Andy and Bax does have Propper Multicam, a whole uniform will cost you about $50 I think. Or you could get UCP issue for $30...

I like UCP.
