GASEAH - What is it, and what does it mean?

Postby SleepyDave » Sun Mar 25, 2012 6:08 pm

I've just recently started using this acronym. What is it? Well, it refers to the recent uptick in tactical gear supposedly marketed to High Speed Death Machines, but in reality is only sold to THEM in order to sell it to YOU. We all know the folks, who are more than willing to drop the extra bucks on a piece of gear just because some HSDM Elite Operators supposedly swear by it. Some of it is the genuine article, some of its questionable. Like that Luminox Navy SEAL watches they've been pimping for over a decade now. According to Luminox, they're genuine issue to Navy SEALs. According to Navy SEALs, they suck and they hate them. 5.11 is another good one. So, what is GASEAH?

Goofy
As
Shit
Expensive
As
Hell

Okay, thats a really cool idea. But is it $600 cool?

For example, this.

But, as the old saying goes, if its stupid and it works, its not stupid. So, what gear can you think of fits in the GASEAH list, and what stupid little thing is actually a really clever idea?

To start, Garmin Foretrex 401, wrist mounted GPS. Is this really that clever of an idea, or is it just a clever little marketing idea?

The Mission Spec sling that goes from 1-2 point with the fancy slack adjustment is one of those things that looks like it's GASEAH (note that all of their American distributors on their site are airsoft folks-), but in practice it's comfortable and functional. Yet to read a bad review. Does it have real world applications? Dunno. The only reviews I've seen are from airsoft folks, and I'm a 19 year-old CoD player instead of a soldier. ;)

I'd say a GASEAH would be that new plastic plate carrier by S&S or whoever. This thing; http://soldiersystems.net/2012/01/12/th ... ate-frame/

I really want a 401. I'll be honest. In one of those 215 Gear wrist holders. In multicam. Because they're just so cool. And not too unreasonably priced.

And yes, that S&S thing is just bizarre looking. And oddly heavy, considering what Crye, TT, and a few others are doing, that do the exact same thing.

When I saw that on ebairsoft I thought it was just a joke or video game thing.
