Custom Paint Job

Postby Fatjogger24 » Tue Dec 27, 2011 5:32 pm

Hey guys,
I have WE tec. M1911 MEU. I'm very satisfied with everything about it, besides the paint. I ended up getting it in Tan, I don't know why that is, anyways, I want to do more stuff with it like a nice custom wood grip, although that would look absolotely HORRIBLE with tan...
So i'm trying to find a place, when I can send it and get it painted black, anf fairly cheap.

Scrape off the paint and sand it from what I'm GOOGLING, And obviously take it apart leaving only the frame. for disassembly refer here:

I know how to completly take it down, i've done it mutlipul times while aplying power upgrades and crap.... thanks though.
Why sand it though? I'm not a perfectionist and I could really fudge somethin up.

Heres one more link:

Here, he's using a KWA 1911.

I don't think you really need to sand it down, but thats just so that the paint would stick i believe...
I have no experience with spray painting guns and stuff, so what I'm supplying could be incorrect.

For a metal handgun I wouldn't paint it yourself unless you can anodize or powder coat it. The reason being that spray paint comes off at the drop of a hat. I would look on Google for a place that paints metal items. A gunsmith might work, but they might not take the gun due to the fact that it is airsoft. if you do spray it yourself use military grade spray paint in matte, don't overcoat, and sand the pieces before hand to give the paint a base to grip. a primer coat might not hurt either.
That's my two cents. :)

Keep the tan color. Buy another one in black. Now you have two pistols you can Akimbo with. One gas pistol is not enough! Nice to have a back up... I'm Just Sayin'.

Sanding , that is lightly scuffing the previous finish, will allow for a much better paint adhesion. If you want to do a really nice job, use a dura coat finish ( Google is your friend) it is available in a variety of military colors , all flat. If you want a quickie finish, just go with the Krylon stuff.

Solved. It's not cheap, but from what I read it sounds like you might want to spend the money.

Sir, that is crazy expensive. Have you considered that it far exceeds the value of the gun? For that much, I would get a Robar finish and be done with it.....
