I want to thank all those who rated my costume highly. I had fun competing against all of you who entered some really fantastic costumes. The competition was stiff and I feel flattered and humbled to have taken second place. As for the effort question. I do not assume in any matter that I put forth any more effort than anyone else. I will say that I have been planning my submission since last years contest. I thought hard to think of a good and original idea while following the spirit of the contest. Once I chose my costume I watched the movie over and over and spent hours on the internet researching the clothes and weapons. Besides google I frequented imfdb.org; a database for weapons in film. I spent the greater part of the year trying to track down an out of production and hard to find/afford SGS compensator for my Beretta m92 so that I would have an accurate weapon. Alas I had to settle a little as well as modify and paint some parts to achieve the effect. In addition I had to ask my SON not my daughter, my son to put on a wig and play Matilda to help me out. I am lucky that he was a good sport and got why it would be cool. I am glad that he had fun doing it and he feels a real sense of achievement from our placing in this contest. I want to assure any doubters that an incredible amount of effort WAS put forth by myself, my son and my wife who took the photo. I hope that I may be able to do just as good of a job next year which I have already started the planning process. Thanks again to the public and the judges who rated my costume so favorably. Woot!

edit: by the way I used 2 cheap springers for the photo.......Harry

I'm petitioning for an IP ban on the troll. Its "full name" is "Harry Dong." It joined less than a month ago, and EVERY one of its posts have been some kind of inane, immature bullshit regarding the costume contest.

EVERYONE: Harry is a troll. Either its mommy didn't love it as a child or its hot dog is too small to satisfy even the tightest gay guy's a$$, and therefore it needs to seek out attention, positive or negative, to satiate itself. By acknowledging its existence in any form (this post included) you only serve to perpetuate its presence. Ignore it, and it will go away.

In short: Don't feed the bleeding trolls.

Precious, put simply, I just didn't get it. I had to look it up. The fact is, I didn't connect with it.

In the meantime, I knew what Hoffs costume was the second I saw it... and it got high marks except for the fact that it's out of scene. He was dressed for the bank robbery with the armored car robbery as the more realistic backdrop. Site selection for this submission was FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC.

Again, I knew what Cosmos' costume was the moment I saw it. Aside from one small detail it was fantastic. Cosmos, you need to split the prize with "Mathilda".

Finally, Lake_Effect_Kid's costume got huge points for originality. I looked at it and thought "Holy shit, that's Ray Stantz!". My scoring on this costume was contingent on his showing us it was an airsoft gun. This costume got the best scores from me.

Combat Gumby?
Costume Quality 10/10 Excellent work
Authenticity 5/10. It looks EXACTLY like Gumby except for that whole holding a gun thing. It's so far out from Gumby, he might as well have just been wearing the green pants without the top half of the suit.
Creativity 5/10, Originality: 10/10... average = 7.5
Weighted average: 100%, 50%, 75% or (40 + 20 + 15)/10 = 7.5/10

Harry,
Gumby isn't anime. Do you hate anime or something!? And as I stated, Ghostbusters was my top pick. Should I be all butt-hurt because MY #1 pick didn't get 1st place?

For those of you saying you won't participate next year... sorry you feel that way.

It's lost on me now. My picks, in order were Ghostbusters (9.8), Cosmos (9.7), and Hoff (9.5)

I shall now set about abusing my mod powers and change all of Harrys posts to random thoughts I believe I could reasonably assign to him.

Gunny- Well I may do something more well-known next year. I did provide reference pictures, but its clear that dressing as a more well-known character is more important than costume construction. Considering that the leads for most action movies are male, this does pose a challenge for me as a girl, so I chose anime/game costumes.

By the way Precious my son proves that your gender need not dictate your costume choice. I know that it would be nice to stay within your own gender to feel more comfortable. I can think of more than a few awesome female action heroes. Two of them being from films by the same man(Luc Besson) as Leon The Professional. I don't want to completely give it away I want people to think about it and research themselves. I can't wait until next year.
