How's everybody

Postby bbct91 » Wed Mar 09, 2011 6:16 pm

I’ve spent sometime reading through the forums trying to get a handle on everything and now I’m a bit overwhelmed. That said I’m interested in getting involved but as I look through the calendar of events I can’t seem to find any small events happening anytime in the next couple of months. Can someone point me in the right direction? A small event would seem like the best way to meet people and learn. My second question is that my son would like to get involved. What is the minimum age for events?

Anyway, any help getting me pointed in the right direction would be appreciated.

I got started when I was 12 but that was for backyard airsoft.
The most commen age for events is 14.
Hope this helps

Under 16 normally you must be accompanied by an adult

Under 18 usually full face protection is required

Waivers are usually signed annually for event groups or series, under 18 a legal guardian must sign.

However, under these rules, as long as you were with your son at said event, he could be 11 or 12 and still participate.

This is great to hone in your skills and meet people.

Actually, any of the CAG trainings are good. There will be more smaller ops when we get closer to summer and the weather gets nicer.

Im sure what he meant to say was "the most common youngest age is 14". Not to be confused for "the most common age of people there is 14"

Welcome to you! Don't hesitate in making your first event a larger Op. That is what I did, and it was a really good way to learn, meet a bunch of new people, and have a blast of a time. Really, I would surely think, or maybe assume is the right word, that being that you are more mature (age 42) that you can handle following the primary rule of calling your hits. Everything else you can learn as you go deeper into this hobby. There are smaller skirms around, and that can be a good place to get a feel for the hobby, but like I said, come on out to an Op, and there will be enough good people around that can guide you on your way. Warning, once you are in, you will be hooked. :)

Welcome to AP, Sir.
Heed the aforementioned warning; one must be prepared to pour time into this once the addiction develops healthily.

Hey, another OGRE! Welcome to the old guys who still shoot at kids club!

Don't feel intimidated--remember, at the core, it's just a bunch of people running around in the woods playing tag.

I work in Albany. If you're interested in actually sitting down and talking about airsoft with somebody, drop me a PM.

Welcome to AP. Nice to see a fellow old guy...we have patches (seriously!).

Here is an OP that would be good to start on. It will be well organized and run, but will not be huge. (My first OP was almost 400 people!!)

http://airsoftpacific.com/viewtopic.php?t=35840

My son was introduced to airsoft at the age of 14 by my younger brother. He played a couple of years before I ever got involved. Two years ago I said I would go to an airsoft game so he would shut the hell up and quit bugging me to try it. I figured it would be a one time thing.

He and I are now both members of a well organized team, we own something like 15 replicas and enough tac gear and camo to fully outfit four or five guys, have a room in our house dedicated to nothing but airsoft, we have a budget, (yes, you read right!!), and we both play at least twice a month when there are games to support our habit.

All that aside, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing some packrat on the other team roll through your sights, popping a few bb's into him, knowing you just saved the world!!!

Come on out! We're pretty obnoxious, but pretty harmless! 8)

I took my son to a game last year when he was 12 and we are hooked. Nothing better than sneaking around in the dirt and mud and shooting bbs at fools. I've got about 14 rifles and a bunch of pistols, 2 sets of camo each, radios, etc. Like RBeran, I can equip a bunch of extra players. We make it out as often as possible, usually 1-2 / month.

Recommendation is to make sure you use a mouth / face guard, an accidental bb at close range will leave a scar or break teeth.

Hope to see you at op lightning.

Yup. CAG has a pretty relaxed atmosphere and is all about training, so if you're new or want to see what airsoft is about, come check us out.

Also, OP: Ride the Lightning is coming up. The Farm is pretty relaxed and you won't feel out of place as a new player there.

Also this weekend is Ash Bash, which is a bit bigger of a game, but don't worry. Just show up if you have a weapon and have fun with it. Of course for this, I believe you'll need midcap magazines.

If gear--including midcaps--is all that is keeping you from Ash Bash Sunday, drop me a PM. We can work something out, I'm sure.
