Type of AR platforms? Teams?

Postby Icepick » Sun Jan 30, 2011 10:10 pm

I was interested in trading for an E1 tacticool AK and was wondering if I can use it on all teams... Or if most events have specific Nato platforms per team, AK platforms for another, etc.

Most games just divide you by camo. Some games that make you play the roll of opfor or russians will have you using an AK. Even in MILSIM games it's usually just camo that separates you

Generally, hosts don't care. Thats changing lately because lots of players want more milsim. If you like it, roll with it.

I found out it was a different AK... Kid wanted me trading my M9PTP with 2 mags, a dropleg, and a few other things (top it off with gas.) All for his used $150 AK...

So what would be the most sensible platform to stick with? I currently have a G36 and I'm keeping it, but that seems like a fairly "middle ground" style platform. Eh?

Get anything. Your never going to go to an event and have something like "you can't play on this team with that gun" happen

The G36 platform is great, I'd love to get another one soon personally. The only issue I had with it was the fact that the mags are a bit fat, it's tough to find pouches that fit them. In my experience so far I've noticed that as cool as exotic guns are the compatibility of mags and pouches can really boner kill that idea. If you're tight on money, go for an M4. If you've got plenty of money to play with go with your favorite gun.

You can always get a STANAG magazine adapter for the G36. I think it looks better, and allows compatibility of magazines.

Yes, you can..... see BSP Impressions thread. Normally you cant go wrong with an M4/M16 of some kind or an AK. Even in mil-sim that is at the anal retentive level there are normally two sides of the coin. The nice thing about the M4/M16 platform is that once you have a base, given the supply of cash you could have a different looking gun almost every week. It also allows you to swap roles quickly and effectively.

No.

No STANAG conversions for the G36. No STANAG conversions for the P90. If you want to run STANAG mags, use a STANAG platform.

And by god, no freaking half-assed MG-36 box mags. It's not a legitimate support platform.

While I'm not a humongous fan of STANAG conversions on the G36 (they're ugly as sin), I'm pretty sure it's possible to do on the real steel, seeing how easy it is to take out the magwell. I know I've seen conversions for the SL-8 magwell.

I would believe since this kid is asking a MILSIM type question that the Conversion for STANAG into a G36 model is not Legit. While it can happen, its not really used in real life as far as i know.
