Quick sling Q.

If your a right handed shooter, then should your one-point sling be hung around your neck and under the left arm, or the right?

Your opposite shooting hand, as far as I know.

It should go over the shoulder that the rifle is not on. If you're right handed, that means put it over the left.

Yeah, putting it under the left definitly feels a lot more comfortable... Thanks for the pointer! I picked up the sling on my last visit to AONW, only $18 and works like a charm.

Do what feels best to you. I carry my rifle with the sling high on my left side and low on my right. I do that regardless of if I'm shooting left handed or right handed (cuz I can shoot both).

That depends a lot on the sling and the primary you are using it with. I have found that with shorter primaries, I can run it over my neck and under my dominant arm and have it hang off my dominant side when I let go of it. With longer primaries, I have to sling it around my neck and under my non-dominant arm. The problem that I have encountered (what with me being slim in build) is that it tends to hang directly down the middle of me, which leads to me racking myself in the testes every time I try to run. This is, understandably, uncomfortable.

Personally, I prefer to hang it off a wolf-hook style one point sling off of my dominant shoulder, regardless of length, if I am running a plate carrier.

Figure out what works for you and run it, though!

I prefer to use a simple, Army issued two point sling, with it just around my neck. This gives you the most versatility and gives you enough slack to use the sling to give you a stable firing platform (wrap the bracing hand in the sling to stabilize the shot).

The only issue with this is that it can strain on your neck. For longer engagements or patrolling, I like to sling it over my right shoulder, so my weapon hangs down and to the left (right arm dominant). I keep the sling fairly loose so that it's not perfectly comfortable if left hanging, but enough slack to quickly draw up the weapon without issues. Also I keep a large pouch on my right side near my kidney, so that I can sling the weapon behind my right side and hooked out of my operating area so I can search people at checkpoints.

I like using wolf hook systems off of my dominant side with a very short sling if I'm doing a lot of searching and don't need to travel far or do very much patrolling.
