We need a tougher stance on Pakistan. Al amir is moving between them.

??? They have hated everyones guts but the mumenoon "believers" of the wahhabi sects for about 40 years, it aint gonna change. The thing that happened on 9/11, that was BEFORE our military was there, remember? Also, they tried to blow up the buildings once before... There are so many things that the Islamic wahhabi terrorists have done to civilian populations throughout the western world in the past 40 years, I can't even list it off the top of my head, and thats not even including the illegal attacks on military forces! (No uniforms etc, not recognized by international law)

You're assuming that he's IN Afghanistan. You're also thinking in 1 dimentional terms.

We could have 1,000,000 men standing shoulder to shoulder 3 feet apart and you have them walk through the Hindu Kush without finding anything. It's a game that the Afghans play very well.

Year after year the Soviets sent 20,000, 30,000, even 40,000 people into the Shah e-Kot Valley after Massoud, Ismail Khan, Karzai... they were looking for a force that was never really more than 2,000-3,000 men at any one time. The solution is not in numbers in Afghanistan, the mountains will simply make your army disappear. The solution in Afghanistan has much more to do with Predator Drones and Close Air Support.

As CAFerg said, another part of the problem is in Western Pakistan. I'd take it a bit further and add Iran to the calculus. It's not as if the Iranians only have to worry about an American military force in Iraq, nor is it a matter of the Iranians being opposed to every member of the former Taliban or Al Queda either. Remember, the phrase "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is Persian.

Finally, don't make Afghanistan a one issue item. It's not about all about religion, it's not all about culture, it's not all about power etc... it's all about all of those things when you look at it historically. Once you get your head wrapped around that fact, and the realities of fighting a war on the roof of the world (OK, it's not the actual "roof" which is in Nepal, it's more like the attic), you'll see how pedestrian and simplistic the common assumptions about A-Stan by the lay-public really are.

Im not saying that we should get out of the middle east politically , but militarily.
also saying that all the people that hate america (whether or not to the point of suicide) are insane is completly ludicris. if our goal is to spread democracy then they have the right to hate america. they have good reason to. lets say hypathetically that Oregon(Iraq) And Washington(US) are at odds with one another. washington is the must powerfull state in the union(World). Oregon just happenes to have a natural rescorce(Oil) that washington needs badly to maintain their way of life. one day washington is attacked by extreamests(Al Qaide) in idaho(Afganistan). many people in washington die. the government of washington is like "oh sh*t" and goes into full gear retaliating rightfully so under the us constitution(United nations treaties). The Idaho government(Taliban) is dismantled and most of the extreamest group that attacked Idaho are Destroyed. The government of washington then makes claims that Oregon, Idaho's neibor had connections to the Idaho attack. Oregon denys claims of any connection to the Idaho attack and lets Federal inspectors into Oregon. The inspectors don't find anything and ask for more time. the Washington Government becomes impatiant and sends troops and airforces to oregon to dismantle Oregons Government.
This time the US Constitution isn't on the side of Washington and tries to stop Washington from attacking Oregon. Washington bieng the most powerful state in the US won't hear it and goes ahead anyway without federal aproval. Washington wages an effective first stage against Oregon. After a military defeat Extream Oregonians Begin to wage an effective Gerrilla War against the Washington forces in Oregon. Chaos insues and All of the industries of oregon fall. life in oregon becomes very dangerous and many civilians die. You, an oregonian, who until recently loved Washington begin to resent it since recently No weapons were found and still no connection to the Idaho attack have been found. You along with many other western states are begining to get fed up with Washington. You also believe to some extent that Washing ton Wants Oregons Oil. You Fought to Have this Oil and am tired of washingtons attitude as the best state in the union. after all Oregons coastline and scenery are unsurpased. and your local brewerys are just to die for. And who's to say that Oregonian Culture isn't better that Washington's - in your opinion it is. Your Pissed And Understandibly so.

Hope this little story gives you an understanding of how it feels.

No offense, but "I support the troops but not the way the war is being fought" is the most cop out. please everyone response I have ever heard.

What do you mean you support the troops, oh hey nice job guys, keep up the good work.

I think only 2% of the airsoft community probably even deserve an openion, the rest of us have no idea whats going on, why its going on, or how to do anything about it.

Frankly, a survey is not going to change a damn thing.

Write your congrassman and tell him that you support the war, but not the way its being handled, im sure he will make the adjustements for you right away.

BWAAAHAAAAHAAAA. That was funny. That was DAMN funny.

I'm not going to address your hypothetical, because it is so far afield from reality and history that it makes me sad. I could spend hours addressing the structural errors.

Not only did you contradict yourself AGAIN from a previous statement (I'll let you figure out where it is), but your premises are incorrect. I'm simply going to tell you that you have no idea what you're talking about, or who you're preaching to. You've never stepped out of the country, or spent any time reading unsanitized versions of Mid-East history, never-the-less watched it unfold. I'll chalk that up to your young age, but it's a hell of a stretch telling me why "how it feels".

There is one thing that I'm wondering about. You stated that the Iraqi's are waging an effective insurgency. You can simply assume that I disagree, and have the background to be qualified to do so. If this insurgency is indeed effective, do you believe that as long as we maintain a presence on the ground that they could honestly win?

Given the fact that the MAJORITY of americans "don't like the way the war is bieng handled i.e. bushes popularity polls" i think is a good indicator. i May Be young, but Have spent a year of My life in An Adv. Honers Global Politics Class Where Guerrilla warfare was a mane theme and which I did a thesis paper on at least entitle's me to some form of opinion.I am also sure that your military experince has given you an extensive opinion on the matter, but that dosen't give you the Right to say my opinion dosent account for anything. also , we never read from any "Sterilized" text books. but from The standard American view point AND from translated Russian/European/ Mideastern Documents/ Textbooks, and compared. by the way wouldn't the "sterilized" books Be the cold war era ones that our public schools are forced to teach with that supports your viewpoint. en gaurd. also i don't know "how it feels" but I can put myself into thier place which i tried to do in my hypotheticle story. I hope You tried to put yourself in the place of the origonian for a split second. if you didn't then i admit i failed in my pointof writing for 10 minutes

I'm not attacking your opinion merly trying to inform/perswade you of mine through inteligent banter.
