How is a bunch of 14 year olds running around shooting each other, completely ignoring objectives, not calling their hits and sitting in corners complex?

My local field has a pretty good policy on the integrity side of things. You have this little card issued to you at the beginning of the day and if one of the admins suspects you of hacking, they punch a hole in your card. One is a warning. Two and you sit out for a game. Three and you're banned for the day. You can come back later, but if you do it again, you're blacklisted  . Luckily, we scare off any of the less honest players by hosting games in the middle of nowhere ;)

If I had the place and money to build my own, I'd be one demanding SOB. Since I have neither of the above, I am willing to give some time / input to attempt to make this operation as good as I can help it to be. That way when I drag my sorry a$$ to their business, I can not be bored out of my skull in shoot em up land with a disco ball and 20 stacks of tires and old barrels........or at least I will give it a shot.

You're totally right, my post came off a good bit more arrogant than was intentded.

I have no interest in trying to run or change their business. For me, it's fun to lay out shoot houses / MOUT sites. If they are looking for volunteers to give suggestions about the layout, with no real expectation that the suggestions are gospel, or will even be implemented, I'd have fun doing the volunteering. If they already have stuff figured out, and just want to see how it plays, or are looking for ambassadors to the community, there are other folks here who would probably be better choices. Some people like rebuilding old cars. Some like classic video games. I like designing shoot houses. And the earlier in the design process, the more fun it is!

No matter what, though, I'll be dropping by after they open to give it a go. If it rocks, I'll be there pretty regularly. If not, I'll still be there every few months to see if things have changed.

No worries...I am used to using govt largess ( say other peoples money) for top rate training and facilities. The further away from it I get time wise, The more I realize that I must use what is available and not cost prohibitive to the average joe . Oregon winters generally suck weather wise, so a place big enough to get in out of the elements is a huge bonus, and I am pumped to have the opportunity to provide input.

I have been in / seen some pretty outstanding facilities as well as some 3 gun competitions where the local SWAT team members kept the level of competition pretty high. From these experiences I got some good ideas and we (AP) hopefully can give these new arena operators some stuff that they can incorporate to make it a better / more challenging experience for all skill levels. A goal for me is to encourage them to have modular walls in their structures so that the experience can be changed to keep it fresh.
I have not been to Tac Tac up north. Any input from those of you who have? Likes , dislikes?

I like arenas with realistic structures. Rather than an abstract collection of walls, doors and windows - make up actual floor plans for places like homes, banks, convenient stores, etc. There's nothing I hate more than speedball in a human sized rat maze. Having furniture also adds to that realism and breaks things up a little bit - but you take a hit to modularity when you have to lug that stuff around.

The balance between modular and realistic can be a tough one.

Id have to agree, but as for more CQB teams start forming (Mostly due to the ACA) I think most new CQB teams are looking for that speed ball type of play.

Competitive force on force Airsoft doesn't always have to be speedball. Even the ACA uses objectives and scenarios, at least, according to their website.

One good thing about the rat maze style is that it can be changed with ease. For instance, a plywood structure can just be moved from the North end of the facility, to the South end without too much trouble. Hopefully the field is designed to have different layouts, so that it could mix up tactics a little bit.

I know that they're trying to optimize profits but I'm not down with no outside ammo.

This can be a safety issue as much as a profit issue. You don't know what weight BBs are being shot. With some of the metal coated BBs and other odd products being sold out there, you never know what some new player might consider an "edge" over the competition.

And quite possibly an insurance liability issue. In fact most all those rules are probably dictated by the insurer.

I have a feeling that falls under "safety risks." But what do I know? I'm a pimple-faced teenager.
