Hinderance with opening a field.

Postby k3gn3123512 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 5:31 pm

I have been pondering recently why there are no fields in my area. Anything remotly close is an a minimum of an hour away. There is a CQB arena opening but that can also get boring. I was wondering what are the hindrances that would stop someone from opening a field here. I mean it certainly does not lack proper enviorment. Can anyone tell me things that would be needed to legally open an airsoft field. Just a few general things.

First off, you wouldn't be successful opening a Airsoft Field, especially since you are 14... Second, most of us here in the PNW drive atleast 1 hour to most events, I know some guys who drive 4-5+ hours to events. If you want to airsoft badly, you better make the effort to get out there.

Well first, nobody will open new businesses in NJ because they are taxed out the a$$, yay for incredibly high taxes! And second, you are 14 years old, you can not legally own a business. When you are 15 get a job, when you turn 18 make sure you have some money in your pocket and go talk to a lawyer about the legal implications of setting up an airsoft field in your area. They will be able to find out what kinds of permits or paperwork you need to file and give you advice on who to contact about insurance and such.

On a side note, why do we get a 12-16 yr old kid asking about starting an airsoft store/field/arena/pissing hole every 4-6 weeks?

I didn't know we did get kids like that posting all the time. At least I never noticed.

Back on track.

I would suggest waiting tell your 16, start saving money and when your 18 open a field

I never said i wanted to do it. I was just wondering why people had such troubles opening them in the area. I mean i dont mind driving an hour or more but i would enjoy getting out to play at short notice. I love how you guys implicate this instantly. I mean think logically owning a business at 14? I dont even think this is a good idea. Hell i would never want to open a field myself.

And yes i am friends with a Airsoft store owner so I will ask him for a summer job.

Airsoft isn't the biggest hobby where you live, or where anyone lives. If there are many companies that own a field, it is hard to keep it, as you can only host so many events every so often, giving you a tad bit of money to let you own the land.

Owning and operating facilities for a hobby full of poor people is a thankless job. Who would want it?

i edited the spelling on your post, because it was bugging the crap out of me every time i saw the title in the new posts listing.

running a "professional" field sucks. there's miles of red tape and bureaucratic crap that has to be waded through that 95% of the players will never see or realize had to be done.

I cannot speak for airsoft guns, but where you live is probably the most restrictive state in the union for real guns. That may have something to do with it. check the state laws re airsoft guns and liability criminal and civil

This over and over again this.... The thing about operating a legal and professional field is the time expense on top of the financial expense. You do not get paid enough to make running games pay for your life. Your life pays for running games.

To successfully operate a field you need to have (not in this order) a large chunk of investment capital, experience in the games themselves, a suitable piece of land, construction knowledge--as apparent from hearing other fields with buildings being unsafe is starting to become a lawsuit filled worry-- expensive insurance because waivers really won't hold up against gross neglegence, the proper Zoning or you will be shut down when the City/County hears of what you are doing, pay your taxes, get your state and city business licenses and permits(if needed), and one of the most important and amorphous areas ...you need a dedicated staff that will show up over and over for little or no compensation or your games will go to shit. With this type of staff your games will go off more professionally/smoothly and the players will appreciate it. If your games goto shit (confusion, complaints unsettled, no communications) it won't matter what kind of props you can buy....

Even with the great deal we brokered from WP we could not live on an airsoft field alone it simply would not pay for itself or its expenses. Paintballers pay way more and that is what is keeping our field alive for airsoft. The dark side has power...er or money at least :D

P.s. there really is alot more to it than this, pm me if you want more details about the overall a$$ pain that is a quality game and the endorphen rush when it comes off well and you get pages of kudos... Not as good as killin foo's but it is close

Thanks for the info, this is what I was asking for it. Because the guy who is opening the indoor arena in my area had to change the venue about 3 or 4 times in a short time to get permission to build.
