My solution to the camping issues

Postby Reese » Mon Jan 18, 2010 5:08 pm

I do not want to eliminate camping at our events. It is a time honored tradition sitting around the camp fires and bullshitting. Airsoft without camping just wouldn't be the same.

With that said, our events have gotten too big to rely on the event planners or the land owners to police the garbage. We had too many issues at CEIV to not address this.

So my proposal is this:

At the next major event put on by BSP, we will be assigning camp sites. We will take down the names and license plate numbers and we will charge a small deposit which will be returned upon the satisfactory inspection of the camp site after you check out.

We will hire a camp host to stay over night. This person will ensure that the rules are being followed and everyone is being safe.

This will be the person that you check in with and check out with.

I've experienced this when renting a camp site from the Forest Service, and it seems to work pretty well for them. I just think that this will be in everyone's best interest in the long run.

Keep everyone safe.

Keep the camp sites clean.

Keep the land owners happy.

Camping is an issue, that can be put separately from the 50 page game thread that some of us aren't bothering to check anymore.

Camping needs to be improved at games. I think out of this game we found some issues, and camping was definitely one of them.

Assigning areas for groups to camp, as well as the fact that there were no BSP admins around the camp areas watching out. Not to say there should be, but as the event hosts, they should make sure everything in their event is theirs.

I saw a few groups that had went to bed with their fires still going. Also the inclusion of alcohol is something always adding some problems, but also a lot of enjoyment for the 21+ crowd.

Heh, mine was deleted too.

I said if he leaves any trash on a campsite he's a hypocrite for screaming at this time.

Yeah, actually.

And its temperature controlled, I have access to a bed, a hot shower, close proximity to food and other amenities, alcohol consumption isn't dictated by the field and/or game host, and I don't have to worry about four hours of cold, wet, broken sleep with car alarms and stereos blaring techno going off at 6AM.

Fixed. And I absolutely agree with you on this Dan. I will kindly shut my mouth and apologize to you the moment the game admins ban my team for destroying our camp site.

Indeed. Try being a weekend warrior and a forum hero all in the same day. That shit is even harder.

Notice how I wrote "alcohol consumption isn't dictated by the field" not "my alcohol consumption isn't dictated by the field."

So weren't you guys from BSP staying at the field overnight as well? If so, why would you need to pay a camp host to do a job you are already doing?

Nope. We have never stayed over night. It would be easier to have a guy who's sole worry is the campsite. Kick him some of the money and not have to worry about it.

If it's you're event why not be there to look after the whole thing? If your event is going to have camping then why shouldn't your admin be there to moderate the whole thing, it seems like it would take more than one person to keep things policed up. At least from what I have seen in the past.
