What holds you back from doing WWII Airsoft?

Discussion of Airsoft use for re-enactment, WWII/WWI airsoft, Vietnam and more.

The expense of a kit is a big problem, not to mention era weapons are EXPENSIV! How good would it look to have a German soldier running around with an M249 decked with a red dot sight, grip, bipod, and a gigantic silencer

Starting...

Postby LettuceHead » Sun Jan 11, 2009 3:01 pm

Well, I have the first bits of my WW2 British kit on the way (three separate purchases)... an authentic pair of Pattern 37 Anklets (Gaiters), serge-wrapped issue Water Bottle w/ web carrier and several pieces of the Pattern 37 web gear (belt, shoulder harness straps, small backpack and two Bren magazine pouches). The webbing isn't in the best of shape but it was inexpensive ($28 shipped) and is a start. Eventually I will find better condition webbing and either sell or loan out this set.

Andy and Bax has the Corcoran knock-off boots that are actually a close look to the issue boots of the period minus metal toe and heel plates and studs in the sole.

Maroon beret, Pattern 37 Battle Dress and Denison smock are next... I have my next six paychecks budgeted for it. I'm shooting for a glider troop impression first because many were issued Thompsons and I can readily get an M1A1 at work (though the British originally purchased 1928s they also received many M1A1s which are evident in many D-Day and beyond photos).

So yes, I'm pretty serious about doing some WW2 airsoft... if you've been wanting to do it then start planning a scheduled budget now so we can start playing this summer!

US para boots look like brit ammo boots as well, you just have to cut them down. I did brit para reenacting for 3 or 4 years and wore those the whole time.
If you're doing D-day and beyond impression, you can always dye your webgear a green colour, i forgot the name of it. And if you're going to roll w/ a smock, you generally just need trousers for now. I found rolling w/ a smock and blouse was way too effin hot.

I wish I knew where all my stuff went. hah. My beret, web gear, blouse, trousers, etc...

"Blanco" was a preservative they applied to canvas webbing... that's what often gives it that kind of 'seagreen' look.

For boots I'm making do at the moment with the knock-offs. Bloused with the Anklets is close enough for airsoft purpose for now.

Figured the same on the smock/ trouser combo. I do intend to get the full Battle Dress eventually because that enables me to do more impressions... kind of like Legos! I do want to do an impression of the Lord Lovat's 1st Special Services Brigade at one point.

Yeah, blanco.
knock offs even work for reenacting. I forgot what I had, but my friend used just para boots cut down. W/ the anklets you can't even tell the difference as long as they have the toe cap. I'd eventually get the blouse as well, plus any insignia. Just looks cool for walking out/hanging around shit.

I think eventually I'll get some cheap shit together for german. but due to a bunch of other expenses right now and missing work due to weather..i'm broke. hah.

Definitely the cost of the kit.
Grayson loves it, but he's still putting his kit together and every piece is expensive.

I am sick and tired of that Genre. Maybe too many Medal of Honor video games for me ;-)

I really want to, but like most others, expense of the kit and fear of any games occuring is a problem. After the deployment I will probably throw together a good kit though. As is, I dont have the time or money to put into one when i leave in 4 months.

My problem is, I'd only use the uniform and AEG once or twice a year. Hard to justify spending 300 to 500 on it and rarely using it.

I do want to tho

The situation fits your handle... ;)

There are few games so interested players don't invest in kit... but the reason why there are so few games is because the interested players haven't invested in kit in the first place.

(I keep saying interested because no one is berating anyone for not wanting to do WWII)

Seen it happen in every hobby I've ever been interested in. Nothing happens in any hobby/ pasttime until a dedicated group of individuals decides to throw down and do it.

Junto and I are going to go look at a couple locations to hold WWII games, and discuss some scenarios tomorrow.

I'll probably have a halfway decent loadout by summer. Of course this means leaving my more practical and frequently used multicam loadout incomplete... but I think it's the right choice. :P
I need that mercedes fixed by noon!
