No they are the WE M4 CQBR
You guys are missing the point. The point is that these replicas can accept real steel internals and thus be converted to fire a real bullet. Who knows if it would withstand the forces from firing the round but the simple fact here is that they can be converted and the other replicas we play with cannot. Thus it makes these illegal to import until they change the dimensions.
I believe the key issue is that you can mount a real steel upper onto the WE lower receiver.
And since the BATF recognizes the lower receiver as the "gun", they are considered illegal receivers. And if the trigger group has a full auto function? Double trouble.
Also, although not directed at Riddick, since the upper receiver is handling all the CUP.

It's a non issue that the LOWER receiver is airsoft, so long as the upper receiver is real. Basically all the airsoft rifle is supplying to the frankenstein affair is a trigger group (bolt catch) and a magazine catch latch. It's not supplying the bolt, barrel, nor the chamber, which is the parts that need to hold up under pressure of the cartridge being fired.
So theoretically you could buy M4 upper and bolt by mail order (no ffl) and a airsoft WE M4. And mate the upper and lower receiver and not only have a REAL rifle? But a full auto one to boot.........
I can understand why the BATF is a little nervous.
