As some of you know, I am from the dark side, Paintball.

I am looking all over for a gun, I have found several options out there at the price range of $240 to $300, most shoot around 320 or so if I recall. I have read that most fields have an accepted standard of 400fps for rapid fire guns. How hard is it to upgrade a gun to shoot close to 400fps?

In paintball our team would engage the enemy at about 120 feet max unless returning fire or maneuvering as a team, if it was ambush, 60 feet or so depending on the environment.
Airsoft, what is the engagement ranges where a player can be affective more often then just putting pressure on the enemy to conceal team movement?
Can a person increase their range by changing barrels? once you try to increase range do you loose accuracy?

My desired setup is an M4 assault rifle, I have played as an assault team leader for most of my milsim gaming experience. So I want info that will help me with my setup as an assault style player, no long range sniper stuff or squad gunner. thanks

Its not hard to upgrade a gun to 400 FPS (or just flat out buy a gun shooting that hot). You don't need to be shooting 400 just because its the limit. 2 of my main AEGs are shooting 350-360 and I do just fine with them. Hell, 2 of my teammates have fun guns shooting 275-300 on the field and outranged players with 400 FPS guns simply due to proper hop-up/barrel tuning.

I'd suggest finding a G&P that externally pleases you (since 95% of all G&Ps are the same on the inside which usually means 400FPS~ and high speed gears) and upgrading the stock barrel to a TBB one and getting a hop up nub. Using a TBB means making sure you clean the barrel often, but since it takes about a minute, its not that big of a deal.

The poster is an experience player, even he has been playing with paintballs. I guess he just want to ask what brand of gun with good set up would last in WA.
No Gas blow back rifle in WA, since we have rain & cold weather here 360 days a year.
If looking for an M4, G&P is good, good external but needs a little work for the internal. To yield 400FPS, you need a M120 spring, Guarder sector gear (G&P stock sector gear is weak), Guarder piston set ( inexpensive compare to Japanese made but good), and a 6.01-6.04 inner barrel.
The above set up is the least expensive to have a gun with durable gearbox.
I don't like long range weapon myself either, I rather see the enemy less than 10ft away from me. If you like doing close range, an M4 carbine will be ideal.
Fuxk the Mosfets & JGs of the man above me say, he has no idea what he was talkin' about :)

Thanks for the feed back. It sounds like a properly set up gun shooting 320 to 360 is more than sufficient. Once I understand the hop up all should be good.

Personally, since I'm a woodland player, I prefer the most power I can get out of a gun for cutting through brush. 340-370 is perfectly adequate for outdoors fields with minimal ground cover, but when you get into field with brambles, bushes, and ferns up to your shoulders, the extra power behind a shot can be the difference between a hit or a complete miss.

As everyone stated before, the hopup is the most important part of your gun (consistency wise). Even if you're running a good TBB but still have a crap bucking, your shots aren't going to tighten up that much. With the buckings I mod, I can pull off shots from a stock barrel that most any TBB can put out. Combine the two and you've got a very solid shooter.
For every action (Bang) there is an equal and opposite reaction (HIT!)

Untrue you can find helpful diagrams for most guns and clones that and mechbox.com has most of if not all types of gearbox how to's (disassembly and assembly)

Hmm, don't know where I pulled that from. :?

And do you only pick on younger members? I don't mean any disrespect, but I seldom see you go grammar Nazi on older members.

I actually hadn't noticed you were a "younger member" until you pointed it out yourself.
My advice is to drop the issue and move on.
