5. DO NOT post ads unless you include your real name, location (city, state), valid e-mail address and date of birth in your profile. Users who lack personal information may have ads removed

http://www.airsoftpacific.com/ads_create.php

Those adds posted by individuals that don't have complete profiles. Will have their adds removed.

Also do not post comments on adds, unless you plan on buying or selling.

That is a great reminder however the real name portion seems a bit much.
I mean I know its your board and all just think that if a persons name is listed they should at least have the ability to hide it from the general public.

Also does this mean you will be pull ALL ads that do not list full names?

People with Proflies like this http://www.airsoftpacific.com/profile.p ... ile&u=5539 and no posts are the problem. The rules only say "your real name" not your complete name. If Matt wishes to reword it to "your full name" that's his choice. Posting adds is a privilege and I don't think we're asking to much for it's use.

Why shouldn't you know who you are buying from? Call signs are great and all, but mean nothing in the real world. When money/goods are involved, your real name is a must.

You probably haven't seen any of the countless threads where someone rants about some guy ripping him off. It happens a lot with online sales. The story is almost always the same. Airsofter A wants to sell/buy some airsoft gear. Airsofter B has other valuables and or currency to trade. Airsofter A sends his half right away and waits for the return package from Airsofter B, who never replies. Accept for an email stating that Airsofter A is a world class sucker.

Real names help out a lot.

Thus face to face is the best way to go. Oh, and cash only. I was burnt once from that, and I will never do it again.

Did I say you shouldnt know who you are buying from? Nope i didnt.
If a person is stupid enough to send money to a person without first getting a name, address etc.I would think that having it listed here would not help either. Also, one should be checking for refs right? If I cant ftf then I take steps as should anyone.

I have done hundreds of real steel deals online and can say that I have only been ripped once on some luger parts.

Oh I have seen them more places then here and for thousands.
But as I said in reply to Jester, just having a name on the board is not going to stop that from happening.

Anyway, my question was answered. Thanks

Part of the vetting process, and part of the rules here because of it, is that you know who your dealing with. It's just easier to know who your dealing with if they fill out a their profile.

Could it be totally false garbage in the profile, sure - but that still gives you information to work with.

An empty profile says that not only are you too lazy to complete your profile, but the local rules don't mean much to you - and is an indicator they may not be trustworthy. At minimum, it says they don't care enough about their sale to post all the information they're supposed to.

Also, IMO, for as big as Airsoft Pacific is, it doesn't hurt anything to have a few rules for the benefit of all.
With all the pretty flowers and twigs in your ghillie.. perhaps you should take up gardening?

I used to have all of the info on my profile It was deleted for this plain and simple reason : Prevention of Identity theft. These forums are open to the public , world wide.
I like to use the ads, and have bought and sold there. However , allowing access to personal information is asking for trouble.

Speaking from personal experience, The investigation of ID theft crimes is a very low priority for the LE community. I used to hate it and so do the vast majority of LE investigators. The reason why? Very little return for a lot of work. Particularly in Oregon.

The old saying applies here: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent,
and discerning if he holds his tongue.

+1 To DJ...

Would it be possible to get a bump system in the Classifieds? I hate feeling like I'm filling AP with the same pics in the same ad(but new post) every week or so to get my ad back on the front page....
