Gear requirements

Postby Tin Man » Thu Feb 24, 2011 8:52 am

It seems like in many events with gear requirements, someone shows up in some really stupid, nonsensical stuff. Like shorts or sweatshirts, or (and I saw this one once) lime green bike helmets. They tend to be kids, and I know that maybe they can't afford it, but it really seems like anyone who shows up wearing that sort of thing causes issues.

I'd really like to see stricter gear requirements at events to maybe weed out a few of the "Backyard Warrrzz" types.

Ya I agree. I'd love to see those backyard kids be exposed to our games and become more serious airsofters but still....My first game didn't require BDU's but i still came in them. It was a really noob friendly "ivans farm" game. Maybe there should be more of those free skirms in the summer so we can funnel the summer influx kids into games that suit them and leave them out of big OPS. That is unless they get their gear and get rid of the clear shotgun and are ready to play with us.

You know what's great about AP? We have lots of different kind of games. Some skirms don't have camo requirements. Some games have strict uniform rules and some require full camo and kit. Diversity is your friend.

Its not free but the farm plays games almost every weekend without gear requirements, pairs players with more advanced players, promotes smarter safer play, and is a legal place to play. I almost always encourage new players to come up and learn and see what others are using, than at the bigger ops they aren't the jackass showing up unprepared. Impressions, gear requirments are great and there are games that need them. Sorry to derail the convo

I know that AP is welcoming, I just would like to see some sort of middle ground between the BSP impression event and the Ivan's Farm skirms. This really just comes from the fact that Lords of War II made me a big LARPsofting fan, and it made it hard to keep in the mindset when I say a dude with a black T and shorts. Really, and I should have said it in OP, I just want to see a slight increase in gear req on more story based events.

P.S. Nasty: big props on the signature. One of my favorite Torchwood lines.

Airsoft is for everyone. Milsim is for a fairly select audience. I enjoy and support stringent age/gear requirements for milsim because the events shoot for total immersion, and its a more serious environment which represents a niche of airsofting. However, friendly skirmishing and open games are for anyone and everyone to enjoy.
