14.8v LiPo

Postby ScaredShooter » Tue Mar 22, 2011 2:15 am

My buddy had the good intelligence to buy a 14.8v LiPo.

Is this feasible? He's gotten a new battery, but at this point we're almost interested in making a project that could accept the high voltage. He's getting intrigued by very high ROF setups.

What do you fight for?
I don't hate Mossy, I just hate the fact he has more gear than me.

Does he know that shoving a big a$$ battery in your gun isn't the only way to give it a higher ROF? Why not a new motor and some highspeed gears?

Because plugging in a battery is way easier and way cheaper than replacing a motor or taking apart a gearbox and replacing the gears.

The 14.8v will wear out bushings or bearings, strip the piston, and/or burn out the trigger contacts.

Delta1 on AirsoftTalk has proven this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYpyY54c4S4

He is probably too cheap to get a new motor and gears and put them in. I know of many people who go for the easy fix, even though it usually costs them more in the long run. But it would be interesting to know how that works out.

If your gears and motor aren't upgraded, they won't handle 14.8v anyways. You know that, right?

I've watched some of the finest gunsmiths on AP build ultra-high ROF setups before, and none of them used 14.8v batteries. Some of the fastest guns I know run off 9.6v NiMH, or the occasional 11.1v LiPo. All of those guns also had heavily upgraded gearboxes designed to withstand the extra voltage and current. Cut steel helical gears, immaculate shim jobs, custom lightweight pistons, weaker springs, reinforced gearbox shells, thicker gauge wiring and upgraded trigger contacts, etc.

So feel free to strap a 14.8v battery to your stock rifle. I sincerely hope that works out for you.

Fuckheaded kids.

Really? Everyone knows that his gun is going to fail with a 14.8v in it. Sometimes it's best to let kids learn the hard way. And I sure hope you're not calling me "fuckheaded." I'm not an idiot. I can prove this to you by showing you my transcripts :)

Yes, we know about the Marui mp5 high cycle. High ROF with an 8.4. The interest was more of could this whole thing be done and has anyone tried it? Kind of a hobby fun thing, not sure why you're getting so whipped up about it haha.

Yeah. Transcripts definitely prove common sense.

I tell my students that all a degree shows is that you've got the determination to stick something out. Which, I might add, is something that employers like. Stubbornness is also not the same as being "fuckheaded". Although, they go together more than common sense and "fuckheaded".
