.40's out of a gun shooting 475FPS should go farther than the same bb going through the same hopup/barrel at 400FPS. .40's out of a 400FPS AEG would bring the FPS down to around 330 I'm guessing? I prefer my guns shooting faster than that personally but that's preference.

You also have a Real Sword which is so epic out of the box, it hurts ;)
FWIW, my Real Sword is my only "high end" gun that is still stock.

Yours is equally good IMO, just more people have one of those (in our area at least).

Yes, the .40s will be knocked out at a higher velocity and that's nice, but there are a couple disadvantages to having your gun at that speed. That said, it could still be worth it; it's something that I might still do.

Just some things to weigh into consideration:

1) Lots of events aren't going to allow that velocity - although the DMRifle class seems to have gotten more common, it's still not a community rule. Some guns have springs that are pretty effortless to change, some don't.

Are you gonna go permanent semi? Can you modify your gun in such a way that you could lock out full auto but get it back easily if you wanted?

2) I will bet that lots of AEGs will face shorter lives with that kind of spring, although upgrading and replacing internals is always an option.

3) Higher FPS usually means louder. Again, this can be messed with if you're willing.

4) Full auto or burst can be useful at times.

I was looking at Jester's SCAR, which I think has a 90 spring? I could be wrong. Apparently it shoots under 400 but is pretty accurate, and surprisingly quiet. That's the kind of setup I would prefer. He mentioned the jerk before him who did some damage with like a 140 spring or some darn thing.

Like I said, things to consider. Your choice.

So would you guys recommend getting a TBB first, then a scope and bi-pod. Or a TBB and upgrade internals (such as hop-up), and use that for a while then get scope and bi-pod after?

I would recommend upgrades internally, especially a TBB and hopup first. The scope and bipod will be wasted on a weak or inaccurate gun.

Bipods aren't that necessary either. I have one on my SR-25 and I've used it maybe twice.

Also, IIRC Jesters old SCAR shot like 290 or so.

Shoot, I down graded mine to get it below 400fps!
