AEG only fires Auto after working on it

Postby bbct91 » Wed Jun 29, 2011 11:10 pm

I have a very new G&G M14 that was shooting at a much higher FPS than most games allow. It came with an M120 spring. So, I decided to put in an M110 spring. G&G’s web site had videos showing how to dismantle and re-install everything. After following the directions and replacing the spring the gun now only files full-auto no matter where the selector switch is set.

I’ve taken it apart twice now, but I really don’t see what’s wrong. When I fire the gun without the trigger, by pushing the fire toggle all the way forward it fires semi-auto. So, I thought I just wasn’t getting the trigger back in properly. However, its not that hard to put back in and it really doesn’t seem like this is the problem.

So, what else would cause this? My worry is that its something inside the gear box, but I don’t fully understand what is doing what. Nothing seems to be broken or lose. The anti-reverse gear was a pain to work with, but I don’t think it has any effect on full vs semi auto.

Thanks.

Sounds like the cutoff lever isn't installed correctly.

So, the cutoff lever wasn't removed from the outside of the gearbox when I took it apart. What I did notice is that with the gun removed from the stock, if I manually move the lever the trigger presses on all the way forward, then it fires semi. However, the trigger doesn't move that far. So, I adjusted something when I took it apart to replace the spring. On the inside the cutoff lever is acted on by something or acts on something. I'm just not sure where to start looking.

Thanks for the response.

It's the way the external trigger mechanism interfaces with the lever on the gearbox, and how the gearbox sits in the receiver. The trigger lever on the gearbox isn't getting pushed forward all the way, so it's just behind where the cutoff lever would hit it.

It takes tinkering to perfection to get it right. Line up all the parts tightly and try again.

+1

You wouldn't believe how many times I had to take apart and reassemble my M14 to get it shooting again.

So, if in semi-auto mode on this replica or any replica is it possible to end up with this same affect? Based on my slow examination and testing of all the parts, I have to agree that something just isn't seated correctly. When I fire the replica without a trigger it does fire semi-auto and I can recreate the full auto effect buy just pushing the gearbox trigger lever part way forward. That makes me think its possible to re-create this effect buy just slowly pushing back on the trigger no matter what the selector lever is set to.

Is it just an anomaly of this make and model? I have an M16 and M4, I might have to see if this is the case with them as well. Not that any of this is very relavant to anything other than an understanding of how things work.

It has to due with the way the receiver and gearbox sit in the stock. The trigger is attached to the stock, and the trigger lever is attached to the gearbox. If you don't get them perfectly lined up, the trigger doesn't move the trigger lever far enough forward.

It's unique to this model. You can shortcut by shimming the trigger lever if you want, but if you over-shim it, you'll break the plastic piece inside.
