New Ares AMG

I am just posting this mainly because I think it is really cool and solves the Problems of creating a M27 IAR for Airsoft since it is small and light weight. It is supposedly a version of the Stoner, but to me it almost resembles the Shrike even though its Upper and lower receivers are not based of the shrike design concept. It also solves the long time problem of weight of the M249 in Airsoft. I am a M249 Para gunner and am 5'9, so the gun isn't a problem at all but the weight after five hours just sucks. So only if this thing wasn't already back ordered.

That looks fancy.

500 rounds per drum? That'd make actual drum magazine changes. Sweeeet.

Ya I think it looks very simple and solid. the gun doesn't have a long barrel like a M6o, but also is good for those who like Para sized LMGs. Also the mag size would limit some of the pure amounts of fire, but at the same time the mag isn't bulky enough to get in the way. The operator may have to reload it and carry more magazines than most gunners, but I think the one thing this will allow is a whole new look to how a Support gunner will engage and fight. I like to run fast and hit hard, but that isn't possible with a M249. The AMG on the other hand will allow gunners to move quickly and this could allow for the Support man to be the focal point of the attack, but it by having such a light gun the operator can move and reshape the formations and fronts of the assault by just moving from spot to spot while covering his crew.

Heh, you can totally "run fast and hit hard" with an M249. Even a real one.

Standard infantry rifleman load: 210 rounds of 5.56 (7ish pounds of ammo)

Standard infantry SAW load: 800 rounds of 5.56, IIRC, plus the wep itself and all the other kit (26ish pounds of ammo)

I'm pretty sure SAW gunners would like anything they can get to kill off some of that weight. ;)

i am gunna have to agree with Snowman on this one. A man can move with a M249 but he still isnt as manuverable and anyways who wouldnt want the lightest load there could get

Isn't this the one that they announced as "coming soon" over 18 months ago? The one that Redwolf refunded the preorders for beacuse they don't think it's ever coming out? From the same company that brought us the plastic SAW gearbox?

Sorry, but vaporware from a company known to make shit products isn't really getting me too excited.

I've been waiting for this gun for a while.

I've heard rumors that it will have a proprietary gear box. If that's the case, might skip this one.

Echo 1 may have one in the works (saw an incomplete, unpainted body in the background at the E1 booth during a SHOT show video).

only 1 problem i see. while the gun definitely looks badass, its an ARES which means overpriced and subpar quality. not to mention that pretty much all ARES guns have proprietary gearboxes that are decent at best

Ares sucks, and all of their parts are too proprietary... Like their ACR for example. I'd be surprised if this gun ever came out, it was announced so long ago.

So strictly speaking airsoft guns..

Everyone talks about this m249 weight problem. I guess I don't understand it. My SAW is like 4 pounds more than most AEG assault rifles..? I mean it's decently heavy, but not like an M60VN with tons of weight, all being in the front. Or an M240..

+1! Sunday during capture the flag I sprinted out to the base the first two rounds and was among the first two people inside. I was way faster than most of the other people on my team, and was carrying the M249.

Fat lazy-ass airsoft kids being unable to run with anything more than an M4.

Besides, I do think that there should be a reward for carrying the extra pounds. This Ares AMG thing looks cool - and I agree with Darius that 500 round boxmag reloads could be nifty. When you take into account that the gun is lighter, I don't think the user deserves 2400 rounds a nutsack.

My m249 weighs 35 lbs including gas tank. I run with it just as much as a run with a m249.

Ignoring for a moment that an AK with a lipo and a 600 round high cap mag might as well be a light machine gun for volume of fire... I don't think weight by itself is really a huge issue with the deployment of support weapons in airsoft. There's a lot more physical investment like dealing with two batteries on a single gun, working with a more or less fixed magazine, paying money and TLC for some unique designs to work well.

Training overcomes 90% of perceived "handicaps" when it comes to your choice of firepower. Humping a SAW a couple of games will either make you competitive with AEG users, or make you stick to the back of the field :P
