AEG or gas?

Postby Ramer » Fri Sep 02, 2011 3:49 pm

I was wondering if any of you use gas powered assault rifles, or if AEG's are more common. I know that gas weapons tend to have a higher FPS, but it's also a pain to have to fill a gas mag, switch to another one while it warms up, and repeat, and how many times you have to do it varies with each weapon model. The obvious advantage of electrics is that you can shoot for quite a long time without having to charge, and there is of course no changing of gas mags.

When it comes to airsoft, I like a high FPS and long range. I also like realistic effects, so in general, I'd really like a good blowback assault rifle, and so far, I'm only finding good blowback with gas powered weapons. If any of you know of a good gas assault rifle that doesn't burn through gas like a hummer, please let me know. I'd like to have a high FPS and good range as well.

All suggestions welcome, and links to the weapons you are referring to are preferred with your suggestion. Also if you just plain don't think that a gas powered assault rifle is worth it in a big airsoft skirmish or operation, your comments and suggestions are welcome, too.

Thanks ahead of time for the help guys.

For now AEGs are more reliable and cheaper to operate than GBBRs.

AEG. without question. 95% of the guns you see on the field will be electric. gas guns are cool, but they aren't as reliable or as cost effective as an AEG.

if you must have a blowback gun, get something cheap to hold you over until KWA releases their blowback AEGs. either that, or try and find one of the CA LWRC guns. a lot of the electric blowbacks are really crappy, its a tiny piece of metal or plastic that moves, you cant even feel it. the CA and KWA guns actually have a little bit of recoil to them. the newest TM blowback M4s have very nice blowback operation, but are a phony pony to work on and get, take special magazines, and are very expensive.

The vast majority of people use AEGs as their primaries. They are cheaper and more reliable than gas rifles.

The only benefits of gas rifles over AEG that I see is the cool factor and they tend to scare people more. Higher FPS of Gas rifles, if true, might not be a good thing. Lots of AEGs are near or at the limit for AP standards. So if Gas rifles have higher FPS they wouldn't be usable.

I use a gas and its fine, BUT like everybody else, I would enjoy a AEG better and it is more of a pain just doing everything with gas, Gas, mags are expensive, bleeding o rings, dont work good in cold weather, etc.
