Ares TAR 21- Can you recommend it?

Postby icebullet » Mon Sep 05, 2011 12:44 pm

As the title says. I did a search and all I found was some threads talking about how cool it would be for a company to make one. So can you or someone recommend this rifle? I'm not to sure about how solid it is, or if it can take midcaps.

Yes, it is a very good replica. A bit overpriced, but I traded for a used one and have to say that I'm impressed. It feeds well with plastic MAG mids, and I imagine it would work with most others, too, as the magwell is very wide. This does cause the mags to wiggle, an the position of the mag release can cause you to accidentally release the mag because it is very touchy. This can be remedied by applying tape to your mags. ROF is quite low with a 9.6v. Battery compartment. Will only fit a nunchuk or small battery without the retaining cap. Quick change sprin system is nice if you use it, which I don't. All in all, it is a decent gun I you want a TAR 21, but a waste of money if you don't. For the same price, get a CA or G&P M4 and trick it out.

its a classis ARES gun. overpriced and decent at best internals. If you're dead set on a Tavor, then its ur only bet, for now. however, i know people who have had it and liked it a lot. altho they told me its a phony pony to get the gearbox out

$300 isn't terrible for what most stores are charging for the AREs Tars.

My friend owns one, and as its tech, its a pretty solid rifle internally. However the gearbox has a few questionable parts, mainly the gears and piston (the piston is clear similar to VFC's and the gears look cheap). It was well lubricated, but the extra lubrication got into the hop-up and really hurt the accuracy. It took us a while to completely clean it out and remove the extra lube from the gearbox.

The externals however, are flawless. Very nice polymer with trademarks and zero wobble makes the rifle a solid piece.

A guy on my team has/had one, Cypher I believe. He said the externals were good but wasn't impressed with the gearbox, he put the gearbox up there with clone brands.

Maybe he will come on here and shed some light.

Ares has some "meh" quality. They all are kinda shimmed horribly stock and the stock motor is a weak ferrous standard motor.
